@AngelaBelcamino Yes, but the phrase applies to the baby not the parents. The baby IS subject to our laws no matter what the parents are doing (except invaders and diplomats). Some argue that the phrase means something about allegiance, but that’s not really in that phrasing.
@SNY_Mets Now, how do you trust Stearns to get back talent from the player fire sale about to happen? I mean he built this pile of crap team. Can’t let him ruin the future too!
@cary_hembree@tolkienzone I don’t mind them amping up a powerful woman (or any person for that matter) if it makes sense and this did. It was a change of who did what due to the story in the movie, not just gratuitous like the all woman team up in MCU Endgame.
@Azriel_The_One@Sbeveunmo@fiercepatricks Encyclopedia Britannica: “Marriage was transformed from a terminable civil contract under Roman law to a sacrament” by later Christian canon law.”
Therefore it was not originally religious.
@Azriel_The_One@Sbeveunmo@fiercepatricks Which religion defines marriage? They differ in monogamy vs polygamy, divorce, and whether it is a sacrament or a rite of passage.
The Romans (pre Christianity example) viewed it as a legal contract with nothing religious about it
@Azriel_The_One@fiercepatricks No one says I’m in a “civil union.” They say they are married. Even hetero couples who don’t get married inside a religion.
@Godisgreat202@fiercepatricks So none fi the heterosexual couples are sinning? None are performing sexual acts that would be considered immoral, sodomy being one of them? Do they become unmarried because they have extreme sexual behaviors? You’re arguing immoral people can’t get married.
@SarahGwizdala@fiercepatricks Plenty of heterosexual couples have a civil union and are considered married. I don’t think the main argument is for homosexual couples to get married in a church.
