Dietary management for intestinal strictures or risk of bowel obstruction in Crohn’s Disease
When the bowel narrows due to a stricture, certain foods may not pass through easily. In these situations, adjusting your diet can help reduce symptoms and support safer eating. The type, length, and severity of the stricture will influence the level of modification needed.
👍 It’s important to remember that tolerance isn’t determined by fiber alone.
Some foods may be “low fiber” yet still dense, tough, or difficult to break down, which can make them harder to pass through a narrowed bowel.
🍽️ Eating slowly and chewing thoroughly is essential. Foods that naturally resist breaking down such as fruit and vegetable skins, nuts, seeds, sweetcorn, beans, and tough or gristly meats may trigger symptoms for some individuals.
Foods that can be easily chewed or mashed to a smooth consistency are often better tolerated, regardless of their fiber content.
📒 Tracking what you eat and any symptoms that follow can be extremely helpful. This information allows you and your dietitian or gastroenterologist to identify foods that work well for you while still supporting a balanced and nourishing diet.

That's part of the vision for Fathom - it shouldn't feel intimidating or like you need to have some tough question prepared to start a chat.
AI can't replace the clinical care we need, but it's been an incredible tool for me to find help with the everyday struggles.
– Blake
One of the weirdest parts of IBD: even when I'm not flaring, sometimes I just struggle to eat.
Not because I'm worried about triggers. Just stuck. Appetite's low, decision feels too big, easier to skip it.
Here's something small that's helps me: I open Fathom and just ask simple questions. "What should I eat for breakfast?"
Building that habit - having somewhere to go when I'm stuck - makes the decision feel less heavy. Sometimes I just need a nudge.
To everyone who helped us get to this point – thank you.
We're beyond grateful and excited to continue serving the IBD community.
This is only the beginning 💚

Our co-founder Blake had an ileostomy from his Crohn's journey. That lived experience shapes how we build - understanding that IBD isn't just symptoms, but surgeries, ostomies, and complex daily realities.
Representation matters. That's why we're here. 💚
Today is #WorldOstomyDay.
To everyone living with an ostomy - whether from IBD, cancer, diverticulitis, or any condition that brought you here - you're part of a strong, resilient community. Your story matters.
If you're new to ostomy life or still finding your way - take it day by day. Stay open to challenges you never thought you'd face.
You'll be surprised what becomes routine. What felt impossible at first becomes just another part of your morning.
