A horrifying case in Brazil.

24-year-old nursing technician Emiliane Tamara Nunes Carvalho disappeared on August 17 in Águas Lindas de Goiás.

Five days later, police found her alive inside a rented house, chained to a bed, restrained and unable to leave. Her former partner, Ailton Rodrigues de Souza, was arrested after fleeing from police.

Emiliane told investigators and later the public that he had abducted her and subjected her to prolonged abuse. She was taken to hospital after being rescued and has since been discharged.

Police recovered evidence from the property, and the suspect remains in preventive detention as the investigation continues. The charges include kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and rape.
