Today, Minister @MusoniPaula met with a delegation of students from @Harvard for an exchange on Rwanda’s digital transformation journey.

The discussion touched on how Rwanda has built its digital foundations over time, from policy and infrastructure to digital public services, and how it is now leveraging emerging technologies like AI to support inclusive growth.

The conversation also looked at efforts to strengthen the innovation ecosystem, develop digital talent, and position Rwanda as a place where solutions can be tested and scaled across the continent.

Perspectives were also shared on the importance of building future ready skills and ensuring technology complements and empowers the workforce.

This afternoon at Urugwiro Village, President Kagame received graduate students and fellows from the Harvard Kennedy School, various Harvard University schools, as well as the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, who are concluding their week-long Harvard Rwanda Trek 2026.

During the exchange, President Kagame highlighted Rwanda’s transformation over the past 32 years with a focus on efficient and accountable governance, institution-building, investing in the next generation, and advancing self-reliance.

The Government of Rwanda in partnership with ALX and Anthropic has launched one of Africa’s largest AI for Education initiatives, introducing Chidi, a Claude-powered learning companion for learners and educators. This collaboration “enhances learning, supports educators, and builds a workforce ready for the 21st century,” said Minister @MusoniPaula .

“We talked so much about globalization, about cooperation, working with each other, but the starting point is always going to be: how you deal with your own business, whether it is a business or a country.

We emerged from terrible challenges 30 years ago. The country was not there and was completely destroyed. Those of us who survived the tragedy had to make a choice: do we go along with the destruction and disappear ourselves? Or do we do something and live again and later on connect with the rest of the world?

In the last 30 years, we have learnt to take care of our business, by holding ourselves accountable, by holding each other accountable and by making sure that we are able to measure the results we get throughout this journey we have undertaken. We don’t forget to cooperate with others across the world. We prepare the ground for other people from outside who can come and make investments with us or do trade with us, and cooperate in all kinds of ways.

“Our policies often look good on paper, in documents. But the most essential thing is ensuring that these well-crafted ideas are implemented. They must not remain just written documents. People must constantly ask why actions that were urgent and had resources allocated to them, even if limited, were not implemented as they should have been.

Our drive and commitment must lead us to act swiftly, do the right things and to hold those who fail to fulfill their responsibilities accountable. Answers must be provided so that mistakes are not repeated.

Many of the things Rwanda goes through are difficult. Some challenges are internal, others come from outside. Even when a neighbour makes a mistake and causes a problem, Rwanda is the one that pays the price and is held accountable. That is our burden.

You must be fully aware of this, and let it shape the way you work, not in the ordinary, day-to-day manner of those who are not affected by such challenges. We face a double burden: we are held accountable for our own actions, and also for those of others.
