Are you stupid? This scene the producer is talking about being the number one show on primetime and studio metrics and Chris Hansen berates her by saying there's a larger calling of expelling evil that supersedes ratings.
Get of your fucking phone and watch the god damn movie. This is a prime example of nuance because it shows that Hansen does believe in what he's doing and isn't entirely a cynical grifter
Hey, so rape is actually always 100% the rapists fault. There is no level of shared responsibility. This is true. Always. Thank you for coming to my talk.
Primetime is a fantastic critique of both reality television, the ego mania that comes with fame and American’s obsession with being entertained by the darkest parts of humanity. Give Pattinson the Oscar.
The way she portrays someone exhausted by the system and at the edge of her rope with the show but ultimately succumbs to and CHOOSES the darkness is astounding. Layered, nuance and complex, she makes the case for being one of the most interesting characters in the entire film.
Seeing a lot of Primetime discourse over Hansen’s morality and I think the interesting thing is the character believes that his only goal is to do the right thing while his unconscious impulses are what only want praise and to be seen as important. Your intentions vs your nature.
PRIMETIME discourse is so interesting because so many people seem to feel like the film is muddled or confusing and I felt it was clearly telling us the post 9/11 world made Americans feel out of control so we clung to ways to feel safe in a world that felt more dangerous by manipulating our every fear (valid or not) and giving ourselves permission to exploit and be exploited
