Earth just hit middle age, and the Sun already knows how this ends.
Our planet is around 4.5 billion years old. That puts it roughly halfway through its entire life. Half. The good stretch might already be behind us.
Here’s the finale. In about 5 billion years the Sun runs low on fuel, swells into a red giant and expands so far it swallows the inner planets. Earth included.
No asteroid. No alien invasion. Just the same star that keeps us alive slowly turning into the thing that eats us.
Plenty of time to finish your coffee, though.
