On the International Day of Awareness of Landlocked Developing Countries, I am proud to celebrate how sport serves as our most powerful bridge to the global stage.
As one of only two doubly landlocked countries in the world, Uzbekistan knows what it means to overcome unique geographic hurdles. But geography has never defined our ambition. In fact, being doubly landlocked has shaped who we are, and we wear that with pride.
Sport has become one of our most effective tools for connecting Uzbekistan to the world, inspiring our young people, and showing what this country is truly capable of.
From finishing 13th at Paris 2024 to our historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the opening of our new Olympic City in Tashkent, sport continues to break down borders, drive national progress, and connect us with the world.
The Olympic City once again hosted a major sporting event — the Asian Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships.
More than 300 athletes from 29 countries competed at a very high level, and we are especially proud of the strong performance of our national team. Uzbekistan’s athletes won 51 medals and finished first among all participating countries in total points.
Congratulations to our athletes and coaches! A great result and another sign that a strong new generation of Uzbek weightlifters is coming through.
We visited the Jizzakh region to review the progress made since our previous visit in April.
We visited the Olympic and Paralympic Sports Training Center and the Sogdiana Sports Complex. It was great to see that the facilities are fully ready for the new academic year and provide young athletes with modern conditions for training.
We also attended the opening of a new fencing hall and padel court. With the support of the NOC of Uzbekistan, both facilities have been equipped with modern equipment for young athletes.
I am confident that these new facilities will help develop young talent in Jizzakh and create a strong foundation for future sporting success.
A historic victory for Uzbek rowing!
At the World Championships in Amsterdam, Shakhzodbek Nurmatov and Sobir Safarliyev won gold in the LM2x event, becoming the first Uzbek rowers in history to claim a senior world title.
It makes this achievement even more special that our athletes finished ahead of strong competitors from Germany and the United States.
Congratulations to Shakhzodbek and Sobir on this historic achievement! I am sure there are many more great victories ahead.
35 years of independence!
A journey built on courage, unity, and belief in our own future.
May our independence always be the foundation for greater ambitions, stronger generations, and a nation that keeps moving forward.
Happy Independence Day, Uzbekistan!
What a day for Team Uzbekistan!
Our athletes added an incredible 16 medals to the medal count today:
5 gold, 8 silver and 3 bronze.
Congratulations to our athletes, coaches and the entire team!
OCA Executive Board Meeting
Today, during the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, we took part in the 110th meeting of the Olympic Council of Asia Executive Board.
Together with colleagues, we discussed upcoming competitions, new projects and the future development of sport across Asia.
I always value these meetings for the opportunity to connect with colleagues, exchange experiences and discuss ideas that can grow into real projects for sport across our continent.
Today was a special day for our team as we gathered to wish the Uzbekistan delegation success ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian and Asian Para Games.
One of the most important moments of the ceremony was the presentation of our national flag to the delegation by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
This year, almost 400 athletes will represent Uzbekistan in 42 sports at the Asian Games. Another 153 athletes will compete at the Asian Para Games.
We are going to Japan with a large and ambitious team. For some of our athletes, these Games will be their first experience at this level. For many others, Aichi-Nagoya will be an important test on the road to Los Angeles 2028.
I wish our athletes confidence, strength and good luck. You have worked hard to earn the right to represent Uzbekistan.
We are proud of you and we believe in you.
Good luck, Team Uzbekistan!
Welcome to my official page on X.
I believe that sport is one of the most powerful forces for inspiring people, bringing communities together, and creating opportunities for future generations.
As First Deputy Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan and Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia, I will use this platform to share thoughts, experiences, projects, and stories from the world of sport, youth empowerment, leadership, and international engagement.
Thank you for joining me. I look forward to meaningful conversations and new ideas.
There are days in sport that test you, and our match against Portugal was one of them.
However, despite the disappointment, I feel great pride in our team. For the first time in history, Uzbekistan is competing on football’s biggest stage, representing our nation in front of the entire world.
This journey was never going to be easy. Defeats are part of growth. They build character, provide valuable lessons, and make future victories even more meaningful.
What matters most is that we keep moving forward. We continue to grow, to learn, and we will not stop. This is only the beginning of a great journey for Uzbek football.
We are proud of every player in our national team. Thanks to these courageous young men, the flag of Uzbekistan has been raised at the world’s most prestigious football tournament, our national anthem is being heard on the global stage, and our country has become the focus of attention of the entire sporting world.
Qualifying for the FIFA World Cup will forever remain in history as one of the greatest achievements not only of Uzbek football, but of the entire sporting movement of New Uzbekistan. This accomplishment once again demonstrates that the reforms being carried out are delivering results, and that our country is taking its rightful place among the world’s leading sporting nations.
It is especially encouraging to see that our national team’s matches are being followed not only by thousands of our compatriots in the stadiums, but also by countless international supporters. The performances of our players are attracting worldwide attention, while their dedication, character, and fighting spirit are deservedly winning the hearts of millions of football fans around the globe.
I am delighted to be here at the stadium alongside thousands of our fellow citizens. I am confident that the experience gained at a tournament of this magnitude will serve as a solid foundation for future victories. Today, we are united by a common purpose — to stand together in support of our team, to rally behind them in honor of our Motherland, to give our players additional confidence, and to wish them every success in the decisive match ahead.
We proudly welcomed home our national football team.
No matter how this tournament ended, qualifying for the FIFA World Cup will always remain a historic achievement for our country. We waited 34 years for this moment, and this generation of players made history.
Yes, the results did not go the way we had hoped. But our team gained invaluable experience competing against the world’s best, and billions of people around the globe discovered Uzbekistan through football.
This is not the end of the story. It is the beginning of a new chapter.
