This is Alex Pretti, a VA ICU nurse, honoring a veteran he cared for at a VA hospital.
The son of the deceased veteran just posted this video on Facebook with the following message:
“RIP Alex Pretti,
he was my Dads ICU nurse, he read my dad’s final salute at the VA after he passed away. Never wanted to share this video but his speech is very on point. Also my Fathers final words to me was continue to fight the good fight. He would be honored in Alex’ sacrifice, and ashamed of this current administration. In my Dads words I encourage you all to continue to ‘fight the good fight’”
Thirteen years ago, my administration acted to protect young people who were American in every single way but one: on paper.
DACA was an example of how we can be a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws. And it’s an example worth remembering today, when families with similar backgrounds who just want to live, work, and support their communities, are being demonized and treated as enemies.
We can fix our broken immigration system while still recognizing our common humanity and treating each other with dignity and respect. In fact, it’s the only way we ever will.
This is fascinating. In the DOJ brief defending Keeping Families Together, they cite a use of immigration parole I was totally unfamiliar with. Apparently in 2000, parole temporarily replaced a pilot version of the Visa Waiver Program and was used tens of millions of times.
This is beyond wrong in so many ways.
1) The eligible population is estimated at 500,000 adult spouses of US citizens and 50,000 kids—not 1,000,000.
2) There are ZERO grounds of ineligibility for humanitarian parole in immigration law. None.
3) There is NO fast track involved.
