NAKURU TOWN, KENYA

Today, the Government has disbursed 3 billion shillings being a second tranche, to 122,000 NYOTA project beneficiaries drawn from all the 47 Counties of Kenya.
Following today’s remmitance, each beneficiary will have received 50,000 in total as business capital support.
Business Development Support is one of the four components of the NYOTA project. Cumulatively, 1 million youths will benefit from this component, and from the On the Job Experience (OJE), Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO).
Gratified to listen to positive evidence from beneficiaries on what NYOTA is doing to help realise dreams and provide crucial tail wind for the new enterprises at the grassroots, community level.
Disbursement meetings run concurrently in 18 different locations, beneficiaries from a cluster of counties congregating at a central location.
Presided over the disbursement event for Nakuru, Baringo and Nyandarua Counties, where 8,958 beneficiaries received their grant.
The entry into force of the Sovereign Wealth Act is one of the most consequential economic steps ever.
The law creates a ring fenced fund drawn from the proceeds of mineral and oil sales to cushion the country from internal and external economic shocks like the recent Iran crisis.
A portion of the fund will be invested in commercially viable strategic infrastructure projects to earn returns while 30 per cent of the proceeds will be saved for future generations.
Today, Kenya has joined the ranks of Norway, UAE, Kuwait and Botswana, ensuring use of the proceeds from our natural resources benefits both the current and future generations.

Our national roads programme has resumed with the Government having cleared 177 billion shillings of pending bills owed to contractors of roads that stalled in the 2020-2021 period.
Over the last one year, 270 billion shillings have been paid to road contractors who are currently working in some 8,000 kilometers of bitumen roads across the 47 Counties.
Modernization of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport has commenced this week, at a cost of 155 billion shillings.

The establishment of the National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) will go a long way in advancing the long delayed objective of having adequate water for irrigation and domestic use.
It is expected to use the NIF to build 50 mega dams and 200 mid sized dams, some of which have been in the plans for more than 30 years but could not be constructed due to funding constraints.
Cumulatively, the NIF is set to help us put 2.5 million acres of additional land under irrigation, improving agricultural productivity and permanently solving our perennial food security challenges.
Received update on the Government's agenda for the water sector from the Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretaries and heads of water agencies.
Urged them to promote teamwork, to expedite the pace of delivery and to work with all stakeholders including County Governments to ensure seamless service delivery.

Parliament has approved the establishment of the National Cybersecurity Agency (NCSA), a major milestone in strengthening our digital security architecture under the leadership of H.E President William Samoei Ruto.
The autonomous body will coordinate national cybersecurity efforts, safeguard critical information infrastructure and respond to emerging threats such as ransomware attacks, data breaches and misinformation campaigns.
Operating under the State Corporations Act and guided by a multi-sectoral board drawn from security, finance, justice and intelligence institutions, the agency will oversee national cybersecurity strategy, manage the National Cybersecurity Operations Centre, audit critical systems and establish a Centre of Excellence to build advanced digital security skills.
The NCSA will also enhance collaboration between government, industry, academia and international partners, ensuring our growing digital economy remains secure, robust and trusted.
