NIHR doctoral RF, looking at pain management in emergency departments. Qual research, observational methods. Interested in implementation science. Views my own.
Our study in @AnnalsofEM found when there is a consequence to the pain score recorded in the ED, staff may record what they think PS should be, not what patient says it is. This reduces validity of PS as a measure of change in pain severity. @RCollEM@painfreeED 1/2
I just have a couple of months left before my study closes and I would love to talks to a few more Nurses, Paramedics or GPs who work in primary care: if you think you could help you can contact me with this link: https://t.co/XSsMn1x71f.
Road crashes claim more than 2 lives every minute, killing nearly 1.2 million people every year.
If these deaths were caused by a virus, it would be called a pandemic and the world would scramble to develop a vaccine to prevent them.

Our Review of Neonatal Assessment and Practice in Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic Newborns highlighted the need for educational resources to help healthcare professionals assess babies at risk of jaundice. This new resource helps meet that need.

Very important line here from @LouHaigh on road safety:
"We treat road safety in a way as if it is somehow a natural accident. If the number of people being killed or seriously injured on our roads, were being killed in any other way, we'd be treating it as a pandemic."
I'm a paramedic. We need a new rescue service for helping elderly patients recover from a fall. I'd love to be able to help them all, but we get so many high priority calls that they're often waiting hours in agony for help. Mountain rescue for example can be retrained for it.
Whenever I hear a new detail in the Gisele Pelicot case I’m further horrified.
Imagine thinking you’re in a loving marriage - and suddenly finding out your husband has been inviting men to assault you while you’re unconscious?
It only gets worse from there /1 🧵
@theJeremyVine I can’t see whether he got to keep his driving licence. Please tell me he didn’t. And that’s shocking reporting - he didn’t ‘lose his cool’ - he lost his temper and is lucky not to be facing charges of manslaughter.
Can you help @RuthF_MCPara with PhD work as she approaches the final week of data collection. Please participate and also retweet if you can as it’s open to volunteers, employed staff and student paramedics.

A bit of YBC backstory for those who are interested, and some justification of my views for those who aren't interested but claim I "hate cars" or want to ban then.

Burning wood damages our #Climate.
👍 Planting a new tree is great but...
👎 ...it takes decades of growth before that new tree is mature enough to absorb the carbon emitted from the one burnt last night.
