So always take the time to talk to and listen closely to customers. You might be surprised what you learn about your product, your company, and your competitors.
#productmanagement#customers#listen
It's always interesting to speak directly to customers and ask them questions about your products. In many cases you will hear feedback that you have probably heard before.
If you are continuing to hear customers ask about and worry about the same things then you are not making headway solving the right problems. Or you might not be looking at the right signals to find the solutions they want.
About a month ago while at Costco, an associate walked up to me and asked if I had an Executive membership. I told them no, that I didn't shop there often enough to see the value in it.
Now Costco announced that Executive members get earlier and later hours to shop away from the crowds. This is either the fastest that customer feedback has ever been implemented or Costco was checking to see if their new service was hitting the right notes.
Make sure that there is always some level of signal available to track on any program or function. Otherwise, how do you know that you've made the customer's life any better?
#productmanagement#measure#data
Just a quick reminder that if you ship a product or feature, and you can't measure its use or impact, then it is the same as having not shipped it at all. It might as well not exist.
How do I know that the AI market has reached peak frothiness? When employees at Costco are asking me about how to take their "vibe coding" project to the next level. I wish I was joking here, but I'm not.
#productmanagement#ai#vibecoding
As a public service announcement, please don't do this if you are hiring at your company: AI interviews and screenings.
There is no better way to say "we don't treat our employees well" than to start off the very first conversation with one this way.

If customers want to review you, they will. Doing more than this just turns off that customer and drives them to actively avoid contact with your company in the future.
#productmanagement#ratings#productreview
Getting customer reviews on products and services is important.
But the length to which some companies go to do this activity is exhausting.
I propose the following to help cut down on the madness:
And that's it. Don't send out half a dozen (or more) pester emails, texts, or notifications. Don't hammer every customer interaction with a prompt to get a feel-good rating or review. Finally, don't continue to request a review after getting no replies from these three methods.
"stuff" with less "boring stuff" or outside help. Assuming that this shift continues, it makes the mind wonder where all of this automation and individual production will stop. Interesting times.

I am constantly amazed at the tools available in the time we live in.
This morning, I was thinking about how to mount a small camera part way up the wall to watch the comings and goings of my cat.
No trips to the store, no consulting with a model builder or expert, no waiting days or weeks for a prototype to arrive in the mail.
What it feels like now is that the world is quickly rallying around technologies that empower individuals to do more...
