A former NASA crawler shipped to Africa as a mobile observation science station, slowly keeping pace with the expansion of an alien lifeform, by Alex Jay Brady
Integrated Interplanetary Vehicle (IIV), my own design for a Cold War era joint Soviet-US spacecraft. NASA would build the NERVA rockets, transfer capsule, and S-IVB workshop, the Soviets would handle the other crew modules and scientific systems.

"Yea, it's gonna cost 1.8 gabazillion dollars per screw, and we can only make 7 of them a year so don't even bother asking for more until 2042...

Titan’s Midway Station, currently in service to the Domestic Reserve Fleet, partially obscured from radar and sight by debris from the catastrophic industrial cracking of 2511 DB1 “Ulysses” and other remnants of extraction ops.
EPITAPH
Millions of years ago, humanity vanished
Not from war. Not from collapse. They simply disappeared
What remains is a galaxy haunted by their absence
Across the stars, alien civilizations have risen and fallen, built empires, explored strange worlds, and spent millennia trying to understand the ruins left behind by the civilization that came before them
They call humanity different things
The Great Builders. The Shapers of Worlds. The Dead Ones. The Conquerors of Stars
But they all agree on one thing:
Nothing has ever surpassed them
Humanity’s relics are scattered across the galaxy—impossible machines, dead megastructures, weapons beyond comprehension, and technology so advanced that entire civilizations have built their own futures by reverse-engineering its remnants
And drifting through the darkness is Epitaph: a colossal worldship, longer than the diameter of planet Earth, still operating millions of years after its creators disappeared
Its machines continue to maintain it
Its defenses still function
Its secrets remain sealed
No one knows what Epitaph was built for
No one knows where humanity went
And the deeper the galaxy digs into the ruins of mankind, the more terrifying the truth becomes:
Humanity may have been the greatest civilization the galaxy will ever know, and whatever happened to them may be the one mystery their machines were never meant to reveal
