Defenders of AI "art" believe that art is about results.
To an extent, I agree. "Human made" does not mean "good". Results matter. But results of what? They cannot come from nothing.
Art must be the result of labor, intent, feeling, soul. Not a prompt and a push.
I’m very honoured that Amber chose my music for her routine, won gold no less! I’m happy things were resolved amicably and that we both stand for the protection of artist rights. I’m looking forward to watching her compete on February 19th with my music again. Go Amber!✨✨✨
So just found out an Olympic figure skater used one of my songs without permission for their routine. It aired all over the world... what? Is that usual practice for the olympics?
As anyone who has followed me for some time knows, I think often on AI. Being a lifelong artist, who also finds myself alive during this brave new experiment, there are many questions that it raises.
For example, and I think an important one for Catholic content "creators" to consider:
Would there be AI image generators, video generators, music generators, etc, had actual artist's work not been stolen without compensation?
Also, when this experiment transitioned from a research project to a commercial endeavor, had the backers who bought out the technology been honest about it and paid every artist whose work was mined in the process (even on some kind of royalty structure since the work could never really be removed from the data sets), would it even been financially viable now? Would we be seeing AI takeover in the arts and content "creation"?
These are two moral questions to consider. "But AI is here to stay, get used to it!".
Yes, and I don't contest that, but as a Catholic the point isn't to just consume the same things and in the same manner that the world consumes.
I think we're called to be deliberate, reflective, and honest in our work. AI gives content "creators" the ends they want, but at the expense of the means. We do after all teach, that the ends do not justify the means, and I have a hard time justifying that, whether or not AI is here to stay.
@acatholicgeek Brb adding Blood Meridian to the list of books I'm gonna read to my kids /j
Fwiw, curious why you say all of HP? I can see why the later ones, but pretty sure I was reading the first one in 3rd or 4th grade
Before the holy night of #Christmas, find one person with whom to make peace. This will be a more precious gift than any that can be bought, because peace is a gift found only in the heart.
