Some free advice for college presidents and ADs:
1. Understand the moment.
This is a turning point for college athletics—not because revenue-sharing is starting (that’s been happening through back-door funding of collectives for years)—but because power has shifted from the NCAA to the universities. You now have the authority to fix a system that was fundamentally broken.
The NCAA let the tension between high- and low-revenue programs fester, creating a bloated bureaucracy that lost sight of the core mission: to support college-athlete development athletically, academically, and personally. You now have a chance to build a better system—one that preserves what’s great about college sports, compensates athletes fairly, and enforces common-sense rules. Don’t miss it.
So sad to learn of the death of Coach Palmore this afternoon. Stacey had such a great way about him & was one of the rare people in coaching that formed deep relationships with student-athletes, administrators & university staff across campus. He will be missed by many. 🙏🙏🙏
Upstate mourns the passing of former @UpstateMBB assistant coach Stacey Palmore. Our condolences are with his son Jaden, his family, and loved ones.
Palmore was an assistant with the Spartans from 2018 to 2022 under head coach Dave Dickerson.
My advice to universities and conferences right now is “burn the boats.” With the fairness hearing for the House settlement scheduled for April 7, 2025, schools and conferences must start implementing the injunctive relief now. With new signing classes fast approaching, schools and conferences need to implement measure now so that the offers being made can actually be delivered in the fall under the new enforcement model. There are mechanisms for schools and conferences to impose these measures now. Although there is no action in this space that does not create some risk, if these measures are implemented judiciously, they can be done prior to settlement approval without materially increasing exposure. On the other hand, doing nothing before April could create massive new exposure if schools or collectives make promises that they ultimately cannot deliver.
NACDA was great & I enjoyed catching up with friends and colleagues, but this year was different because of all the unknowns. We’ve summarized our takeaways & look forward to helping our friends & colleagues plan for a new & fundamentally different future. https://t.co/uHh1KXBdEH

As my friends and family can attest, social media is not where I typically spend my time. That being said, my interview with @petenakos had me fielding many questions today. So, in an effort to answer these questions in one single place, here are a few thoughts on the article:
@RobHeuer I know this was a difficult decision but you won't regret it my friend! I'm excited to see what's around the next corner for you, and wishing you and your family the best in this next chapter.
Congratulations to my friend @CoachBrennanUSF on her hiring as head coach! UGA got a winner, a tremendous ambassador for the university, and most importantly, a great mentor for the young women on the golf team!👏👏👏
