Let me try and make my thoughts clear.

For me, treating work as something to be phased out, as if it were a burden technology will erase is a flawed premise. Our need to work is not a temporary condition of scarcity. It is the expression of our nature, to produce, to create, to shape the world using our mind. I don't feel we can escape this in the so called age of abundance because it is what makes abundance possible in the first place.
Promising superabundance while severing production from reward for me is declaring that the mind no longer matters.

Musk speaks of a world where machines do everything and we receive an income for existing. But an income detached from production is not wealth but a claim on the effort of others, or on a system that has already been set in motion by minds it no longer rewards.

I absolutely support the advancement of technology in a free market, but you
cannot automate responsibility and even more so, you cannot automate the moral fact that values must be created before they can be distributed.

If someone is lazy today, he is not missing opportunities. He is evading the only process by which a human being becomes competent to live: the exercise of his own mind in purposeful work. No future technology will redeem that evasion!

I guess the question is not whether you will have the opportunity to work in five years but whether a culture that treats work as optional will still remember why any of it existed at all.

Is a world where no one needs to earn a world that has forgotten how anything is earned?
