ABUJA IS NOT FOR SALE. OUR GREEN SPACES ARE NOT FOR
PRIVATE PROFIT.
What is happening in Abuja under Nyesom Wike is unacceptable,
irresponsible, and dangerous. The Federal Capital Territory was designed as a city of balance, a city of dignity, and a city for all
Nigerians. Today, that vision is being shredded in the name of private
concessions and land monetisation.
The recent development agreements signed on the matter of the Jabi Lake Park are not in the best interest of Abuja residents. They represent a clear attack on our shared spaces, our environment, and the rights of the ordinary Nigerian to breathe, rest, and exist in a city that belongs to all of us. Jabi Lake Park is one of the few remaining free, open green zones in Abuja.
A space where families walk, children play, vendors earn, and communities gather without fear of harassment or exclusion. Instead of strengthening this public ecosystem, the FCTA has handed it over to private entities for redevelopment.
Once public space becomes private property, the poor are pushed out and the elite takes over.
Abuja’s original master plan reserved significant portions of the city as green and open space to moderate heat, manage stormwater, and protect environmental stability. These spaces are not decoration. They are infrastructure. They are life support.
Under Wike’s watch, Abuja is being turned into urban slum. Parks
become plots. Waterfronts become private investments. Public value
becomes private gain. Oversight institutions remain silent while
decisions that weaken the city are smuggled through the back door.
Abuja’s beauty is in its diversity. Its uniqueness is in its openness. It’s strength is in its shared identity across tribes, faiths, and
backgrounds.
Wike is attempting to transform a people’s capital into a playground for the elite, and Nigerians will not accept it.
I call on civil society, urban planners, environmental advocates, and every resident of Abuja to rise in defence of our city. We must protect our green spaces. We must defend Abuja’s master plan. We must resist the silent takeover of our common patrimony.
Abuja is being quietly stripped piece by piece. This destruction must stop. Abuja belongs to all of us. And we will defend it.
We deserve #BetterAbuja!!!!

@PeterObi Person we die since, we kept sounding it yet some people didn’t believe. They have finally decided to announce. Nigeria was governed for years by cabals without a president. There was a Country indeed
@AishaYesufu@PeterObi Very well meaning Nigerian knows @PeterObi won the 2023 general election. But what is he doing now to ensure his Mandate is stolen again in 2027?
