I made a colored game of life running ultra fast on WebGL.
I have never managed to setup up GL boilerplate myself, but with the help of GPT-4, I got this done in 2.5 hours. There’s even fancy stuff like multiple buffers.

@dzhng read the markdown.
pay close attention to repeating bugs. obsess about edge cases. understand the irreversibles. talk with the LLM about technical tebt. think like an attacker. have a good smell when something is slow or wrong. and just *care* about engineering excellence.
here’s a version before, which used just a height parameter rather than the material stacks. you can see the initial artificial perlin noise much more clearly
managed to vice code this and now I’m trying to figure out why it’s so good and how to replicate.
some key methods:
- using material stacks that can wear out and deposit the material elsewhere
- several processes that use the same resources but operate at different time scales
@yacineMTB we are *not* in the singularity – perhaps past the event horizon, but like falling into a real black hole, you wouldn’t realise it. AGI here? perhaps. but singularity is where the future stops existing.
there are still events ahead ∴ not singularity
Hello! It's about time I started posting here.
I'm Alex Harri. I write technical posts -- typically deep dives -- on https://t.co/GAr0uPNMaq.
I joined @paper recently. I built their pen tool; lots more in the works.
Excited to share behind-the-scenes videos and ideas here!
@jpschroeder qwen3-coder-next seems surprisingly good for coding specifically, didn’t see it mentioned yet. I’m getting 40~50 tps on m1 max.
however tools like web search and automated tests make a bigger difference than the model
I partly agree but there are some important details:
1) early or late, regularity is good for sleep
2) the main difference after that is social stuff and sunlight
3) no distractions is fun AND refreshing
4) but team comms is very important
5) sunlight and computer screens don’t mix
6) it’s hard (but not impossible) to radically change the schedule of social non-work activities (very important to have those as well even if work is #1)
7) the idea that inherently work must be after sleep and before leisure/self-care is BS, can be reversed or mixed up as well in my experience and it can feel even better sometimes. any guilt ”I should/shouldn’t be working now”is a separate issue.
In general people are different and it’s valuable to question social norms – and then work extra hard to maintain/improve social *integration*.
Also remember Chesterton’s fence, but no risk no gain.
Just be useful and take care of yourself, nothing else is a given.
@ilyamiskov Yes there is: nothingness

Good: ”I could do that.”
Better: ”I will do that.”
Best: ”I will do that with my own style.”
If something seems easy, it might be.
There’s only one way to prove it. Either way, you’ll learn on the way.
Next time you think, "I could’ve done that," just remember: you didn’t. 👀
As a creative director for many years, I've learned:
Having good ideas is the easy part.
The real challenge? Bringing those ideas to life.
