"yeah, yeah. you owe me big time." sugilite grumbles offhandedly. "you really never change,"
it irks him how much his peers are willing to overlook aventurine's tendencies —
⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀ aventurine can practically feel the scathing look his now-junior must be giving him. luckily he's far too gone for it to stir any shame in him. that'll be for tomorrow, when he wakes up feeling like he got hit by the astral express.
⠀⠀
he's never one to care for the amount of violence his hands reaped, and yet when he adjusts aventurine's shirt back onto his shoulders and places his coat over his back, there's a touch of tender caution that the latter would have caught,
another smack lands on his cheek once more, before he fishes out a bottle of electrolytes and hands it to aventurine.
"drink this—slowly. i'm not gonna tell you twice."
despite his professional priorities, there's a lingering sense of unease the longer he watches aventurine try to keep himself upright.
what would even possess him to let himself descend to such an unsightly state?
it was a good thing his paranoia had him disable the surveillance cameras before walking into the room to pull his (begrudging) P46 senior out.
"i said, party's over. get up. everyone's already gone home."
the second aventurine responds, sugilite grimaces with a look of utter distaste.
his frivolous, self-destructive tendencies, while understandable were entirely unbefitting of a highly-ranked executive of the strategic investment department.
⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀ his head's spinning. not in the fun way it does after a couple glasses of dom pérignon and a pretty-pink 𝓮 on the tip of his tongue, but the way it does after mixing four different kinds of alcohol when the only thing he's eaten all day is a few hors d'oeuvres.
⠀
he leans over aventurine's slumped figure, smacking the back of his gloved hand upon the blond's flushed cheek.
"hey. hey, get up. party's over."

aventurine's been promoted, of course he has. sugilite ignores the multiple texts in the group chat about a department gathering—something about an after-party for the launch of a product aventurine just landed an endorsement deal for.
"oh, look who's here. mister "he's not my fucking problem." sugilite!"
"you didn't stop calling me."
"it was five texts."
"whatever. leave. i'll wake him up."
"so he does care."
"do not test me, jade."
