Where are the retail pharmacists going besides hospitals?

So the pharmacist's job will likely separate into two pieces:

Machine work:
-scanning data
-summarizing
-identifying signals

Human work:
-deciding
-approving
-verifying
-communicating

AI will likely automate:
-drug interaction checks
-dosing calculators
-guideline retrieval
-chart summarization
-medication history extraction

But it cannot completely automate:
-accountability
-risk judgment
-clinical interpretation
-edge cases
-physician communication

The problem?

Some hills are small.

A lot of pharmacists are waking up to that reality.

The question isn’t just:

“What’s my next promotion?”

It’s:
“Is this the hill I want to spend the next 20–30 years climbing?”

Pharmacists are really good at climbing

Undergrad → pharmacy school → residency → clinical → manager → director

Every step is “up”

But make sure you're not climbing the wrong hill

If you keep taking the step that moves you upward, you’ll eventually reach the top…
