I teach third grade. Had a student who never did homework. Ever. Parents didn’t come to conferences. Kid was brilliant but failing.
Stayed after class one day. “Why don’t you do your work at home?” Silence. Then quietly. “We don’t have lights. Mom can’t pay electric bill.” Eight years old carrying that shame.
Started a homework club. After school. My classroom. Snacks. Help with work. Safe space. He came every day. Then other

We thank the security agencies, members of our community, and stakeholders within the Ibeju-Lekki community for their vigilance and support.

THE WINDOW PROBLEM IN MODERN LAGOS APARTMENTS 🧵
Lagos is getting taller, denser and more expensive. Ironically, many of the apartments being delivered today have one major design flaw:
They don't breathe.
1️⃣ Many modern apartments have windows, but not enough usable windows.
A bedroom with a single small opening on one wall is not naturally ventilated. It is merely illuminated.
2️⃣ Cross-ventilation is disappearing.
Traditional Nigerian homes were designed around airflow. Air entered from one side and exited through another.
Many contemporary apartments have eliminated this principle entirely.
3️⃣ The result?
• Hotter interiors
• Greater dependence on ACs and fans
• Higher electricity costs
• Poor indoor air quality
• Less comfortable living spaces
4️⃣ Developers often maximise floor area and unit count.
The casualty is environmental comfort. Every extra room squeezed into a building usually means less façade exposure and fewer opportunities for proper window placement.
5️⃣ Another issue is window size.
Tiny sliding windows may satisfy approval requirements, but they rarely provide adequate airflow for tropical climates.
Lagos is not London. Our buildings should respond to our climate.
6️⃣ Security concerns have also influenced design.
Many homeowners permanently shut windows because of noise, dust, security fears and pollution.
The result is a building that depends almost entirely on mechanical cooling.
7️⃣ Good architecture is not just about aesthetics.
It is about comfort. A beautiful apartment that requires air-conditioning 24/7 is failing one of the most basic tests of tropical design.
8️⃣ Before renting or buying an apartment, ask:
✔ Can air move through the unit?
✔ Are there windows on opposing walls?
✔ Does the kitchen have natural ventilation?
✔ Can the bathrooms ventilate naturally?
✔ Is daylight reaching deep into the spaces?
9️⃣ The future of housing in Lagos isn't bigger windows.
It's smarter window placement. Buildings should work with the climate, not fight against it.
What has your experience been with ventilation in Lagos apartments?

Why are many Lagos homes becoming hotter despite looking more modern?
Cross ventilation is disappearing. Buildings are packed tighter, windows are reduced, imported designs ignore local climate, and many homes are designed around air conditioners rather than airflow.
The result:
• Higher electricity bills
• Poor indoor comfort
• More dependence on generators
• Worse indoor air quality
Traditional Nigerian architecture understood the climate. Modern housing is often fighting it.
The cheapest cooling system is still the breeze.

🧱 🏟️Anfield Stadium should soon be available as an official LEGO model! It consists of 3,793 parts!
After 10,000 supporters backed the project, it's now in review phase with LEGO.
The fan who designed it says: "I built this model as a tribute to Liverpool FC and its passionate fanbase. Anfield isn’t just a stadium—it’s a symbol of history, emotion, and unforgettable moments. As a fan of the club and a Lego enthusiast, I wanted to bring the magic of match day to life in brick form, allowing others to celebrate their love for the club through building.
"I have attempted to recreate Anfield's unique architectural elements, including the modernised Main Stand and Anfield Road Stand, both with their impressive sloped roofs, and the more classic exteriors of the Kop and the Kenny Dalglish Stand. The exposed roof trusses are prominently present in the Lego model and feature creative building techniques."
Liverpool Football Club celebrates its 134th birthday today 🎈
The club officially came into existence on June 3, 1892, after founder John Houlding set about creating a new team on Merseyside that year 🔴
A special story was underway... ✨
