The reoccurring themes of temptation and paradise in ch. 29 mimic edenic garden imagery, but this happens in the bardo (afterlife)? #21lit

Why is the phrase "You are a wave that has crashed upon the shore" repeated four times in chapter 29? #21lit

It seems as if Saunders will also put analyze reality and truth, specifically on pg.19 with the different accounts of the moon #21lit

[Farah M @femory21]

@arianaroberts17 it certainly has a poetic effect in which everything builds up to a frenzy or "madness"

[Farah M @femory21]

@johnkling_21st interesting how we brought up the same ideas with Mike

[Farah M @femory21]

Does the grandfather's claim that the narrator thinks the memories explain himself suggest that Mike is looking for meaning also? #21lit

[Farah M @femory21]

@brian_ross17 I wouldn't necessarily call him selfish; I just think he's so caught up in his work. (Maybe that's a type of selfishness??)

[Farah M @femory21]

On 196, the narrator asks if his grandmother "was worshipping a horse god" and his mother disagrees. But is fear a type of worship? #21lit

[Farah M @femory21]

@brian_ross17 It also puts into question the authenticity of the narrator

[Farah M @femory21]

Here is the song the narrator references on 120: https://t.co/NKfE02chJS #21lit

#21lit I think it's a little sad that the narrator never defined herself but the video lets everyone else (the public) define her.

[Farah M @femory21]

#21lit I really liked the imagery on 450 about crossing the bridge and "ignoring both barriers". Does it allude to her identities?

[Farah M @femory21]

.@slalor8 I agree. Also, Smith talks a lot about poverty and "the system", but it's possible that the mother is in a system of her own.

[Farah M @femory21]

.@merril2017 I'm not really sure if she's going great lengths for him but rather, is unable to face the reality of their situation

[Farah M @femory21]

What do we make of the narrator's mother securing power alongside the regression of her beauty and physical strength? (Page 391) #21Lit

[Farah M @femory21]

"Sometimes I wonder if people don't want freedom as much as they want meaning"(382). We can relate this to many of the characters. #21Lit

[Farah M @femory21]

.@fostermccune19 I think the mother is just dealing with her guilt as she gets closer to the end of her life.

[Farah M @femory21]

.@fostermccune19 It surprised me a little bit because even though the mother is self-sufficient, Miriam was a little bit of a crutch.

[Farah M @femory21]

.@jer_evans You could argue that modernization (technology, wealth, etc) makes performers of us all, and that he is in sync with "the times"

[Farah M @femory21]

Do we witness the narrator's first interaction with power and control on pg. 369 with the internet? #21lit
