The Sumerian King List is pretty strange.

Versions of it are more than 4,000 years old, and the most complete surviving copy dates to around 1800 BCE.

It starts by saying “kingship descended from heaven” and was established at Eridu. Then it lists rulers supposedly reigning for 28,800 years, 36,000 years, 43,200 years and more. Eight kings supposedly ruled for 241,200 years before the text simply says: “Then the flood swept over.”

After the Flood, the text says kingship descended from heaven again, and the list continues. Eventually the retarded reign lengths shrink and we start running into rulers and cities that belong to recognizable history.

That is what interests me. This thing doesn't read like a random list of gods. It deliberately connects an impossible age before a catastrophic flood with the world of later human kings.

Do I think this proves NHI came down and ruled Sumer? No.

But I also don't think we should casually throw away what the Sumerians themselves were trying to tell us.

I think maybe “kingship descended from heaven” was simply their way of saying political authority came from the gods. Or those impossible reigns were symbolic numbers. But are we looking at badly distorted memories of something much older that had already been passed down for generations.

I don't know. But heaven → extraordinary rulers → flood → heaven again is a strange fucking way to begin one of humanity's oldest surviving accounts of kingship.

TARTARY WAS NOT INVENTED ON THE INTERNET. SO, WHAT WAS IT?

Long before Tartary became a topic of discussion on the Internet, her name repeatedly appeared on some of the most important maps and reference books in Europe.

in 1712, Hermann Moll published a map showing Independent Tatarstan. Samuel Dunn did the same in 1788, and in 1806 John Cary published a new map of the Chinese and independent Tatars. These are not Moderna discoveries or images of dubious origin. The original maps are currently kept in important historical collections.

But perhaps the most interesting reference can be found in 1771 in the first edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
Your entry starts like this:
"TARTARY, a huge country in the north of Asia...”
That's to say:
"TARTARY, a huge country in the northern regions of Asia...”
And these words are important.
The Britannica did not describe Tartary as a myth, a legend, or a vaguely ancient civilization. It included Tartaria as a country, described its enormous geographical extent and divided it into different regions.

However, something changed in the nineteenth century.

The name, which had occupied a huge area on the maps for generations, disappeared, while Siberia, Central Asia, Mongolia, Turkestan and other geographical and political names took its place.
The official story offers a simple explanation.

Tartary would have been a very broad European term used to describe vast areas of Asia that were still little known to Western cartographers. As geographical knowledge improved and regions and borders became more precisely defined, the old term was no longer used.

Perhaps this explains everything.
But there still remains a fascinating historical question.
How can something that the first Encyclopaedia Britannica described as "a huge country" and that repeatedly appeared on important European maps be so forgotten that most people today do not even know its name anymore?

The existence of the name Tartary is not the secret. The historical records make it clear that it existed.
The mystery is what Tatarei really represented and why it so completely disappeared from our vision of the past.

2、许多福利政策规定，一旦受助者的个人收入超过某一标准，就会立刻失去食品券、住房补贴等福利。这实际上是对穷人脱贫的努力课以了极高的“隐性边际税率”，将他们永远困在依赖政府的阶层里。 “福利制度通过两个渠道拉大了贫富差距：

第一，减少了底层人口去赚取收入的必要性；

第二，惩罚了他们去赚取收入的努力。”

3、福利制度摧毁了黑人家庭与社区结构，索维尔经常用数据和历史事实反驳“黑人家庭的困境是奴隶制遗毒”的观点。摧毁黑人家庭的不是奴隶制，而是20世纪60年代兴起的福利政策。

一、单亲家庭暴增： 在1960年代美国“伟大社会（Great Society）”福利计划推行前，绝大多数黑人家庭都是双亲健在的完整家庭。

二、“父亲”角色的消失： 福利政策规定，只有单亲妈妈（或家中无男性经济支柱）的家庭才能领取高额补助。这等于政府在经济上“资助”了单亲和未婚生育，直接导致了黑人社区中父亲角色的集体缺失，从而滋生了更高的犯罪率和辍学率。

4、 福利的本质是“政客的古老骗局”，福利国家（Welfare State）本质上是政客与知识精英合谋的一场“分赃”游戏。政客们用“劫富济贫”的道德叙事，把纳税人辛辛苦苦赚来的钱收走，再以救世主的姿态施舍给选民，以此换取选票和政治权力。庞大的福利计划需要养活无数的政府官僚机构，大部分资金在真正到达穷人手里之前，就已经被庞大的行政机器消耗掉了。

索维尔说：“福利国家是世界上最古老的骗局。它先是静悄悄地拿走人们的钱，然后再张扬地把其中一部分还给他们。”

5. 索维尔指出，左翼知识分子总是执着于“财富分配（Income Distribution）”，但这犯了一个致命的经济学常识错误：财富并不是由政府集中分配出来的，而是由个人创造出来的。贫困是人类社会的默认初始状态（因为人类祖先一无所有），真正需要解释和研究的是“财富是如何被创造出来的”。试图通过剥夺富人来拯救穷人的福利做法，最终只会破坏财富创造的根基（自由市场与个人奋斗精神），导致大家共同走向贫困。
