Over the past months—and for years before—I have been vocal in challenging Christian Zionism as an ideology fundamentally incompatible with the gospel. I have insisted, again and again, that Christian Zionism is a threat to peace, and a threat to the very existence of Palestinian Christians.

I have also spoken clearly against Israel’s actions, especially the recent war on Gaza—described as genocide by many of the world’s most respected human rights organizations and genocide scholars.

Because of this, I have been the target of repeated smear campaigns. I have been called many names and accused of hateful things I do not believe and have never said.

Most recently, a U.S. Senator labeled me a “Jew hater,” repeating lies and false accusations.

This is not honest engagement. These labels are meant to deflect, to intimidate, and to discredit the messenger—so that people don’t have to deal with the message.

I wish my critics would engage with the facts: with my words, my writings, my books, my sermons, and my talks. Challenge the content. Disagree with my arguments. But do not invent lies.

These attacks will not stop me.

I won’t pretend it’s easy. It is painful. It makes me sad—especially as someone who has invested so much of my life in interfaith engagement, in building bridges, and in writing and speaking with deep respect for Jewish-Christian relations.

But it also strengthens my resolve.

As a follower of Christ, I refuse hatred. We cannot hate. We resist evil with the logic of love. We overcome evil with good. We respond to offense with blessing.

And yet we will always speak truth.

I will not bow to attempts to silence me.

And if this is the price for speaking against genocide, and for lifting up the suffering and dignity of my people—then so be it.
