In our recent CoinMarketCap Space, Alessandro got the question he's heard since day one: building a compute network out of smartphones sounded strange to a lot of people at first.
Here's the case that changes minds: your phone is already a reliable, always-on computer. Think about how long your alarm clock phone goes without a restart. Weeks. Months.
Acurast never runs in the background, so you choose when to dedicate a device. Overnight while it charges, or full-time with a spare. Either way, it just keeps going.
See the clip from the Space below.

With so many businesses adopting Bitcoin and getting quick payments via the Lightning Network. How are all these payments going to affect miners? Will we miss out on the transaction rewards? Does this help or hurt miners?
Let’s dive in on what the Lightning Network is and how it’s used.
The Lightning Network is a Layer 2 protocol built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain.
It allows users to transact off-chain through payment channels, settling only occasionally on the main chain.
This makes payments:
•Faster
•Cheaper
•More scalable
But that efficiency changes miner incentives
🧨 How Lightning Can Negatively Affect Miners
1️⃣ Fewer On-Chain Transactions = Lower Fee Revenue
Bitcoin miners earn money from:
•Block rewards (new BTC issuance)
•Transaction fees
Lightning moves many small transactions off-chain, which means:
•Fewer transactions competing for block space
•Lower fee pressure
•Potentially lower total fee income
If millions of coffee payments happen off-chain instead of on-chain, miners don’t collect fees from them
2️⃣ Long-Term Security Budget Concerns
Over time, Bitcoin block rewards shrink due to halvings.
Eventually, miners are expected to rely mostly on transaction fees.
If Lightning significantly reduces on-chain demand:
•Fee revenue may not grow enough
•Miner incentives could weaken
•Some worry this might reduce hash power and network security
This is more of a long-term theoretical concern than an immediate problem.
3️⃣ Channel Efficiency Reduces Settlement Frequency
Lightning channels can:
•Stay open for long periods
•Aggregate thousands of payments
•Close with only one on-chain transaction
The more efficient Lightning becomes, the fewer on-chain interactions are required.
⚖️ The Counterargument (Why It May Not Hurt Miners)
Many Bitcoiners argue Lightning actually helps miners long-term:
✔ Lightning increases Bitcoin adoption
More users → more value → higher BTC price → more valuable block rewards
✔ Channel opens/closes still use the base layer
Large-scale Lightning usage still requires on-chain settlement.
✔ Block space becomes premium settlement space
If Bitcoin becomes a global settlement layer, demand for block space may stay high even if retail payments move off-chain
🧠 The Core Debate
The debate centers on:
Will Lightning reduce on-chain fees too much, or will it increase Bitcoin’s overall value and demand?
There’s no definitive answer yet. It depends on:
•Adoption scale
•Fee market dynamics
•BTC price growth
•Future scaling layers
