Running AI agents in 2026 feels oddly familiar...
I'm sitting here monitoring dashboards, tweaking prompts, hitting "enter" or approving the next step... every few minutes, every hour, all day long.
And suddenly it hits me: I’ve become Desmond in the Swan station from Lost.
Every 108 minutes (okay, maybe every few prompts or agent cycles), I type something, press execute, and hope I'm keeping the electromagnetic disaster at bay. Or at least proving that a human is still in the loop, still contributing, still saving the world one button press at a time.
Is the agent actually doing meaningful work? Or am I just performing the ritual — providing the faith, the oversight, the occasional "yes, go ahead" — so the system doesn't spiral?
Some days it feels profoundly important. Other days it feels beautifully, hilariously absurd.
The more autonomous our AI agents get, the more we realize the real job might still be the oldest one in the book: showing up, staying vigilant, and pressing the damn button with intention.
Who else is living their own real-life Lost hatch moment right now?
