“They said that I should lose my ideals & begin to believe in the methods of practical politicians. Now, I have not lost my ideals in the least; my faith in fundamentals is exactly what it always was. What I have lost is my childlike faith in practical politics.”
G.K. Chesterton
When you draw from the eye, you're drawing from memory. A memory of five seconds ago, a memory of ten seconds ago, a memory of a minute ago. If you think about it, it's all memory. - David Hockney

It's so sad that to honor David Hockney, so many people post AI-generated images that don't even remotely resemble his works, at least not in the eyes of people who actually like him.

"Trees are the largest manifestation of the life-force we see. No two trees are the same, like us." David Hockney
My favorite works will always be Hockney's colored pencil drawings.
How anyone can evoke this richness and vibrancy with such an economy of line is beyond me.
David Hockney on the set he designed for Stravinsky’s ‘The Rake's Progress’.
Created for the 1975 Glyndebourne Festival, his design emulated William Hogarth’s original 18th-century satirical prints, with cross-hatching being a distinctive feature.

"I believe that painting can change the world. If you see your surroundings as beautiful, thrilling and mysterious, as I think I do, then you feel quite alive" - RIP David Hockney (1937 - 2026)
"The world is very, very beautiful if you look at it, but most people don't look very much, do they? Scan the ground in front of them so they can walk, but they don't really look at things incredibly well, with an intensity. I do, and I've always known that."
~ David Hockney
'I can get excitement watching rain on a puddle. And then I paint it. Now, I admit, there are not too many people who would find that exciting. But I would. And I want life thrilling and rich. And it is. I make sure it is.'
