Royal Thai Army spokesman confirmed that Thailand has not yet fully seized control of Ta Kwai Temple, following Cambodia’s strategic placement of PMN-2 landmines around the site, as evidenced by recent images shared on social media.
.
Army spokesman Maj Gen Vinthai Suwaree condemned the inhumane act, stating that the mine-laying around a historical site frequented by journalists and civilians not only violates international law but also contravenes the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use of anti-personnel mines.

BORDER: ‘In the Blink of an Eye, It Took Our Home and Our Loved Ones’: Thai Man Mourns Nephews Killed in Cambodian Strike
SURIN, THAILAND – Standing amidst the rubble of the home he spent a decade building, Mr. Suthee returned on Wednesday to the site where a Cambodian rocket attack killed his two young nephews and destroyed his family’s life.
His home in Kap Choeng district was obliterated in a multi-barrel rocket strike from Cambodia that began on July 24. Today, his only task was to leave offerings for the boys he lost.
"The older one liked alcohol," he explained quietly, "and little Namkhong loved sweet drinks and snacks." He placed the drinks on the broken foundation, noting that he couldn't find any snacks as all the local shops were closed.
"Go be little angels in heaven," he whispered, speaking to his lost nephews. "You were innocent and never sinned."
Mr. Suthee’s grief is twofold: for the home that was his life's work, and for the children who filled it with joy.
"Seeing the condition of the house, it's just so hard to accept," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "It took us over 10 years to build this, saving up bit by bit. To lay the foundation, to tile the floor... every square meter took so long. To see it all gone in the blink of an eye… it’s beyond words."
He continued, the pain sharpening as he spoke of 8-year-old Namkhong.
"The house is just a memory, but the ones who were taken were the apple of our eye. Everyone loved the little one. He had no mother; he was raised by a single father. The whole family doted on him—grandparents, aunts, uncles, everyone. When he got sick, it felt like the whole family was sick. In the blink of an eye, it took both our house and the ones we love. Now, the war has taken him, and he’s never coming back."
The destruction is absolute. The family's barn, tools, and house are gone.
"We weren't rich, but we had a home, food on the table, a place to lay our heads," Suthee said. "Now, look at this. It's all 100% damaged. Our tools for making a living are all gone. I don't know which way to turn or what to do next."
While government agencies have been in contact about housing assistance, he knows any help is a long way off. For now, his family is homeless, and the emotional toll of returning is immense.
"It would be so painful for my family to come back here, to see this where they used to run and play," he said. "We have nowhere else to go. We’ve never caused trouble for anyone... but now, this is our family's fate."
Before leaving the ruins, he placed a bottle of Namkhong's favorite perfume where his room used to be. A faint smile broke through his sorrow.
"He loved to wear it to school," Suthee said. "So he would smell nice, and his teacher would compliment him."
