We were honored to welcome H.E. Dr. Sylver Aboubakar Minko-Mi-Nseme, Ambassador of the Republic of Gabon, to RICA today. He engaged with RICA leadership on our commitment to sustainable agricultural transformation and explored our unique education model through various enterprises. Exciting conversations were also held on potential collaborations to empower youth in sustainable farming through hands-on farming education offered at RICA.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: RICA’s innovative learning and training model received strong recognition at a high-level meeting in Kigali, where partners praised its role in advancing Conservation Agriculture (CA), a key component of Rwanda’s PSTA5 goals.
As RICA positions itself for CA leadership, partners emphasized on making the Institute the African Center of Excellence in CA, help drive transformational impact for farmers, food systems in Rwanda and across Africa.

“The crisis in eastern DRC is complex and deeply rooted. For Rwanda, any assessment must include the FDLR, a UN-sanctioned genocidal armed group founded by perpetrators of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Since finding safe haven in DRC, FDLR has remained a direct threat to Rwanda’s security and a driver of instability in the Great Lakes Region.
The threat carries an ideological dimension. The genocidal ideology spread by the FDLR continues to fuel anti-Tutsi hate speech, ethnic incitement and discriminatory rhetoric against Congolese Tutsi communities, including the Banyamulenge. These are early warning signs that cannot be ignored. These realities are documented in UN reporting.”

At today’s Mechanization Day in Gashora, RICA Vice Chancellor Dr. Olusegun Adebayo Yerokun reaffirmed RICA’s commitment to supporting Rwanda’s agricultural transformation through sustainable agricultural mechanization, Conservation Agriculture (CA) and farmer capacity development.
In partnership with @FAORwanda , @RwandaAgriBoard and @giz_rwanda , RICA trained 15 mechanics and 31 Farmer Field School Facilitators in sustainable agricultural mechanization and CA practices. Graduated today, they are now equipped with practical skills to operate farm machinery and help farmers increase productivity through mechanization.
Yesterday, RICA Vice Chancellor Olusegun Yerokun welcomed @FAORwanda Country Representative, Mr. Mohamed Aw-Dahir @awdahir , for a courtesy call.
Their discussions centered on the impactful collaboration between our two institutions and our shared contribution to Rwanda’s agricultural transformation through the National Agricultural Mechanization Strategy.
They also explored future partnerships aimed at scaling the capacity of SMEs within the food production and processing sectors.
.@RICA_Rwanda has called for stronger partnerships to boost its impact in research, innovation and skills development as it seeks to become a regional hub for agricultural transformation.

We hosted a group of Master Trainers from the Canadian Foodgrains Bank Rwanda yesterday for a Conservation Agriculture (CA) refresher course. During the visit, they observed the practical advantages of CA and learned about our relay cropping research, which aims to improve soil and plant health through effective cover crop management.
Toward a Unified CA Agenda: Yesterday, RICA hosted @RwandaAgri staff and @RwandaAgriBoard station managers from across the country for a Conservation Agriculture (CA) tour and training on campus. The training created a valuable platform for strengthening synergy among research, extension and policy institutions. It also helped build participants’ capacity to support farmers in adopting CA to advance its implementation and scaling nationwide.
Today, RICA hosted @careinrwanda Rwanda to campus. We explored strategic areas of collaborations in Conservation Agriculture, such as experiential learning for @careinrwanda supported farmers and internship placements for RICA students. Discussions also included advancing agricultural research, strengthening extension services by empowering Training of Trainers (ToTs) and supporting CARE Rwanda’s model farmer programs.
Conservation Agriculture (CA) took center stage at the recent RICA Strategic Partners' Breakfast Meeting. Participants highlighted the vision of making RICA a regional center of excellence for training African youth.
Under the theme "Unlocking Transformational Impact for Rwanda and Africa," the event urged partners to collaborate on research and extension services, providing scholarships and co-creating solutions that bridge the gap between scientific discovery and practical farming. #RICA #Rwanda #Africa #ConservationAgriculture #SustainableFraming
At RICA, we believe the best way to learn is by doing. In our Farm Power and Machinery course, students master engine diagnostics, maintenance and full overhauls. Through this experiential learning model, students graduate with more than just textbook knowledge. They gain the practical confidence and expertise needed to transform the agricultural sector. #ExperientialLearning #ConservationAgriculture #RICA #AgriculturalMechanization
Today, RICA and @REMA_Rwanda, under its LCDF III project, concluded a 2-day training on Alternative Livestock Husbandry practices for 60 livestock farmers and veterinarians from @KireheDistrict. Participants gained insights into non-traditional, overlooked species that require less capital and smaller landholdings but yield high market value, key to strengthening household resilience and diversifying income.
Today, RICA Leadership paid a courtesy call to @Kepler_College management. The two parties exchanged institutional experiences, reflected on student development approaches, and explored potential areas for future collaboration.
Telling the COnservation Agriculture (CA) story at RICA is now a collective effort: staff, faculty and students united as we position RICA for CA leadership. Inspiring to hear farmers call in during the live radio show, eager to learn more about CA. Thank you, @kigalitoday, for amplifying our voice beyond the RICA campus.
