@greg_ashman "how little Freire has to offer teachers today" - wow. He taught marginalized populations in the context of a dictatorship. His reflection is on emancipation through education, not strategies to teach 10yo math students now.
@greg_ashman His work was done while Brazil was under a dictatorship, showing how education is never neutral—it either reproduces oppression or empowers people. Slamming Pedagogy of the Oppressed for not being a teaching manual isn’t critique if you don’t analyze the full picture.
@greg_ashman The direct instruction vs. inquiry debate is about pedagogical efficiency (which model best supports learning outcomes). Freire’s work is about the political and ethical dimensions of education—whether education reproduces oppression or cultivates critical consciousness.
@pauldrossi@greg_ashman yes, it was. People don’t understand that because they don’t know his story and the context of his work. The result is irrelevant opinions like some here.
@RJB948468940353@dickjones4real@DrNeilStone the fact that there is a scale going from 1-14 has nothing to do with the body maintaining a stable pH. You keep repeating that people don’t do research but it’s clear you don’t know what you’re talking about. Google it. This is 9th grade science content.
@RJB948468940353@DrNeilStone this doesn’t make sense. The body maintains the blood pH stable so there is no such thing as eating alkaline food to change its pH. Please study.
Not all wrong answers are equal. I used to think students just needed the right information to fix misconceptions but then I read the work of Michelene Chi🧵⬇️
@Ilonabecskehazy@P_A_Kirschner Paulo Freire never demonized the existence of curriculum nor defended the removal of the teacher’s responsibility to teach. It seems like you don’t understand the context of his work.
@dshensmith then they can go to a different restaurant. Plenty of Five Guys to buy bacon from. Funny how the free market is not as “free” as one might suggest.
@C_Hendrick@MrZachG not to forget the historical context of his work: many millions of illiterate people living in poverty in a country characterized by inequality and oppression, followed by a dictatorship. Education”s goal was to liberate people.
@C_Hendrick@MrZachG Paulo Freire’s method was developed to improve literacy of working adults (not children) from poor rural areas of Brazil. His goal was to 1) help adults read/write in a short period of time (which he succeeded) and 2) help them become critically aware of their social reality.
