#WATCH | Chandigarh: Additional Advocate General of Punjab, Haryana HC, Ferry Sofat says, "Recently, three petitions were filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking to conduct the ongoing municipal elections in Punjab using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). These petitions were submitted in opposition to the State Election Commission's earlier announcement that the elections would be held using ballot papers. Today, the High Court dismissed these petitions, noting that they had been filed at a very advanced stage, by which time the election process was already substantially complete. The elections were announced on the 13th; the deadline for the withdrawal of nominations was the 19th; and the polling is scheduled for the 26th. Consequently, conducting the elections via EVMs at this juncture is not practically feasible…”
Chandigarh: Ferry Sofat, Additional Advocate General of Punjab, says, "First of all, we were concerned about the problems that have been created in the whole country with the S.I.R. Except for one party, every party has to face problems. West Bengal is a major example where 90 lakh votes were cut. 27-28 lakh people were not able to vote despite their availability...''
Slapping the "corrupt" label on an elected representative without any pending investigation or judicial finding isn't journalism, it is a cowardly smear campaign. You just bought yourself a legal notice for criminal defamation. You have exactly 24 hours to drop your ego, post an unconditional public apology, and pin it to your profile for 48 hours.
#WATCH | Chandigarh: On renaming of MGNREGA to VB–G Ram G, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann says, "They renamed railway stations and cities. I fear that they will rename even the country to Deen Dayal Upadhay Nagar. Change will come about only if you actually work. Nothing will happen if you rename...If I rename you (a journalist) Messi, will people come to Chandigarh to see you?...Rename it to whatever you want, but give wages to the people...The wages should go to the right person and not to someone else who did not actually work..."

Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed Bikram Singh Majithia's bail application in a disproportionate assets case.
He was arrested on June 25 for allegedly routing ₹725 crore through hawala
Chandigarh: On the dismissal of the bail application of SAD leader and former Punjab Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Ferry Sofat, Additional Advocate General of Punjab, says, "He was arrested on June 25 in a disproportionate assets case. The case mentions funds routed through several companies via hawala, and their immovable assets have increased substantially, much more than ordinary citizens. At the time the FIR was filed, the alleged amount was ₹540 crore, which has now risen to around ₹725 crore, and that amount has already been seized. Considering the gravity, the court dismissed the petition today. The detailed order is still awaited."
#WATCH | Chandigarh: SAD leader Bikramjit Singh Majithia's bail plea dismissed by Chandigarh HC. Additional Advocate General of Punjab, Haryana HC, Ferry Sofat says, "... He was arrested on 25 June based on an SIT report of illicit fund transfers through various companies. Majithia’s plea was that the proceedings and custody have been prolonged, and it is all a political vendetta. The court recognised the seriousness of the matter and rejected his petition today. There were many shell companies involved in money-laundering transactions. Funds were transferred into these companies from Cyprus, and based on all these arguments, the court dismissed his bail petition..."
#WATCH | Ferry Sofat, Additional Advocate General (AAG), Punjab and Haryana High Court says, "He had filed Rajya Sabha nomination with forged signatures. The MLA, whose signature he forged, had lodged an FIR. After the scrutiny yesterday, Ropar Police came here to arrest him. But Chandigarh tried to save him, as was seen by everyone. So, we had to approach the Court today. So, the CJM Court issued strict orders today and sought an explanation from SHO Sector 3 Chandigarh and SSP as to why the arrest warrant was not executed yesterday. The Court also directed that the arrest warrant be executed. He has now been arrested and his custody has been handed over. He is being taken to Ropar."
