The formation of Amotekun was meant to arrest criminals and hand them over to the police for prosecution.

But in Osun State, Amotekun has derailed from that purpose. They arrest suspects and detain them in their cells for as long as they wish. They go to innocent people’s homes at midnight, extort them, and arrest anyone who cannot afford to pay bribes.
Recently, they invaded Akinlalu community, killed ten people, and left many others injured.

The Osun State Police Command invited the Amotekun Commander for questioning, but instead of honouring the invitation, he staged a fake assassination attempt to avoid appearing before the police.

The victims and residents were heartbroken and ready to protest violently, but the police acted swiftly to prevent chaos by sealing off Amotekun offices in Ife and Osogbo.

A few days ago,
Bishop Mike Okonkwo celebrated his 80th birthday and he invited the former VP Professor Yemi Osinbajo to speak.

Prof spoke on how the church in Nigeria today contributes heavily to the moral decay and corruption in society.

This was what happened in Anambra. Peter Obi stopped it immediately.
Infact, equipments in the public hospitals were taken away and kept in these private hospitals, when patients come to the public hospitals, rather than get treatments, these doctors will then direct them to their own private facilities where the patients are charged more.

What was most annoying was that they removed the equipments and ambulances from the public hospitals and kept them for use in their own private hospitals.

Peter Obi caught them and ended it immediately, went there personally, exposed them and put the charade to an end, and they decided to go on strike.

During the strike, nobody heard of any mass death in Anambra, nobody heard of any issues, because while they were on strike, hospitals were still functioning even much more better without corruption, with the same equipments they diverted. Some of these equipments were also equally given to mission hospitals that were functioning as well. Today two of those mission hospitals Peter Obi equipped are now Nigerian Teaching Hospitals today.

The doctors who went on strike even came back on their own, apologised and the issues were resolved.

These are some of the issues in our health sector, Peter Obi solved.

Prioritising Nigeria’s Security Remains Imperative

I read with deep concern the lamentation of Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, who openly admitted that he knows the exact locations of bandit leaders but is incapacitated to act because he lacks control over security agencies. This starkly reflects the systemic weakness of our security architecture.

What kind of country are we running where a federating unit lacks the coordination and support of the centre in the most critical role of governance – the protection of life and property? When the Chief Security Officer of a state is reduced to a mere spectator, citizens are left at the mercy of criminals.

I have repeatedly called for a restructuring of our security framework to make it more responsive, decentralised, and effective. The Federal Government must, as a matter of urgency, give Governor Dauda and other governors across the federation all the support they need to secure their states and safeguard the lives of Nigerians.

The safety and security of our citizens must become our highest priority.

A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO
