Update.

I thought going viral would solve my problem. Instead, it made me an easy target.

My previous post reached thousands of people, and I genuinely believed it would lead to a job, gig, or opportunity to help me raise the ₦200,000 I need before September for my education and IT.

Sadly, it didn’t.

I tagged several big accounts, replied under countless posts, and even reached out through DMs hoping to find honest work. Instead, I got scammed twice by fake accounts that promised paid tasks and disappeared after I completed them.

Despite everything, I’m still not giving up because I don’t want financial challenges to stop my education.

If you know of any genuine job, remote work, freelance gig, or referral, I’d be incredibly grateful. If you’re able to support me financially, I’d also deeply appreciate it.

Poverty is dehumanizing.

I know because I lived it.

There was a time I couldn't afford a phone, decent clothes, or even transportation. Survival came before ambition. Every decision was about making it to the next day.

I'm not sharing this for sympathy. I'm sharing it because I know what it takes to fight your way out. I'm still on that journey, but these are the principles that changed my life.

1. Accept your reality, but don't let it become your identity.

The day I admitted I was poor was the day I started making a plan. Denying your situation delays your progress. At the same time, never let your environment decide your future. I grew up in a place where many people accepted survival as the end goal. I didn't. Your current situation is where you're starting from, not where you have to finish.

2. Learn a skill people already pay for.

When you're broke, your priority is increasing your income. Don't chase every trend. Learn a skill businesses already spend money on, whether it's marketing, sales, customer support, copywriting, design, or programming. The market rewards people who solve problems, not people who simply work hard.

3. Learn how to sell yourself.

Talent isn't enough. If nobody knows what you can do, opportunities will pass you by. Learn to communicate your value, ask for opportunities, negotiate, and put yourself out there. I asked for help when I needed it, and I wasn't ashamed to start small. One conversation can change your life.

4. Build relationships.

Most opportunities come through people before they come through applications. I intentionally built relationships online and offline. Help people, stay visible, and be known for something valuable. You don't need to know everyone. You just need enough people to know what you do and trust your work.

5. Live below your means.

When I started making money, I didn't rush to look successful. I kept my expenses low, stayed disciplined, and focused on saving instead of spending. Looking rich is expensive. Building wealth requires patience and good financial habits.

6. Create multiple income streams.

One income source is a good start, but don't stop there. Freelance, consult, sell a service, build a business, or create digital products. Diversifying your income gives you more stability and reduces the risk of starting over if one source disappears.

7. Think long term and keep showing up.

Escaping poverty rarely happens overnight. There will be setbacks, rejection, and slow seasons. Keep learning, keep improving, and stay consistent. Progress is usually the result of hundreds of small decisions, not one lucky break.

8. Help people whenever you can.

One of the biggest opportunities I've received came because I helped people without expecting anything in return. If you don't have money, give your time, knowledge, or skills. Build a reputation for creating value. People remember those who solve problems.

I'm not saying this is the only way to fight poverty, and I'm not saying everyone starts from the same place. But these principles changed my life, and I hope they help someone else build a better future.
