Eric Cabahug, one of the writers for the 2008 animated film “Dayo,” reminisced on the creative process behind some of the characters for the film as movie enthusiasts draw comparisons between the film and the 2026 movie “Forgotten Island,” which both contain Filipino mythological references.

“It was the first time these popular creatures were portrayed this way on the big screen and we had a total blast running with it, not really conscious at how subtly groundbreaking it was for Filipino culture,” Cabahug said.

“Now, twenty years later, it's so gratifying that the rest of the world, or Hollywood at least, has caught on with movies like #ForgottenIsland,” he added.
