The Trump Administration has quietly arranged for the president to be exempt from IRS audits on his past tax returns. Not delayed. Not deferred. Exempt. 

For ordinary Americans, underpaying taxes or making a misleading statement on a return means penalties, interest, and scrutiny from the IRS. Under this arrangement, the president is shielded from all of that on every return filed before the deal was struck. The exemption also extends to his sons, Eric and Don Jr., and to the Trump Organization. 

This is not a minor technicality. Reporting has tied Trump to a long-running audit dispute involving more than 100 million dollars in claimed tax breaks. This immunity deal could make that liability disappear. 

If someone insists they did nothing wrong, why do they need blanket immunity from ever being audited. Innocent people do not ask for a shield. They ask for a fair hearing.
