Games That Weren't covers cancelled video games and unreleased games across a variety of consoles + home computers. Running since 1999 online + longer offline.
Nuker was an unreleased #C64 Thalamus game that was fully recovered by #GTW64 in 2015. A intriguing twist on snooker, where you must pot all the balls on a futuristic board to progress.

Drop Soldier was an ambitious RPG with 3D elements, putting you in the shoes of a 1st rank soldier across various night and day missions. Due for release on #Amiga, #PC and #ST platforms - it was canned after Image Works collapsed in late 1991.

Judge Death was a #2000AD licence from Piranha that was due for release in 1987 on the #C64. The company sadly collapsed before it could happen, but an odd (unofficial?) release under the name of Horror City was made in 1989 which you can check out.

Orcus was a very promising SEU for the #C64 back in 1990, with some superb music + sfx by JCH. Cancelled after the team working on the game never got paid. Thankfully some previews have managed to surface, though we hope to see more some day.

Myth: History in the Making was meant to have seen a revival on #PlayStation, #PC, #N64 and #Saturn platforms back in 1998 by System 3. Though after some promising preview screens, it was never heard of again. Could anything of it some day be found?

Inspector Gadget and the Circus of Fear was to be very different compared to the awful final #C64 release. Originally a Metro-Cross style game with wonderful intro, it was scrapped due to an "unfixable" bug at the time.

New GTW entry: Springclean, an unreleased 1989 title for the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC.
Both versions were completed and mastered before being shelved, and developer Rich Stevenson reveals that the original source and master disks still survive today.

Yup, that was a tune just taken from the unused loading music from Mean Streak (which I think Matt had released on Compunet). He wasn't asked to contribute, and I think the tune was just temporarily ripped and added as part of the proto.

Deathstalker is a cancelled #C64 conversion of a #ZXSpectrum and #AmstradCPC Codemasters title. Abandoned due to a coding glitch + developer inexperience at the time. There is an early prototype available on the GTW site to check out:

💬 Quake Advance: How a Lost Game Boy Shooter Prototype Came Alive
The roughness is doing a lot of the emotional work here. Quake Advance is fascinating as a technical experiment, but the slow performance would probably make me quit quickly. I keep judging it like a game, even though it was really a glimpse into a developer’s workbench. Maybe that’s unfair. Would you rather have seen a compromised official Quake port or preserved this way?
