“You were coughing this morning,” said Rabbit.
“How do you know?” asked Roo indignantly.
“Oh, Roo, you never told me,” said Kanga reproachfully.
“It was a biscuit cough,” said Roo, “not one you tell about.” ~A.A.Milne #NationalBiscuitDay
Morpheus, the Greek god of dreams, gave his name to the drug morphine. He was the son of Hypnos, god of sleep, and Pasithea, goddess of hallucinations. Legend says Morpheus and his kin slept in a dark cave strewn with poppy petals and sleep-inducing seeds. #FolkloreSunday
“This is Tigger.”
“What is?”
“This,” explained Pooh and Piglet, and Tigger smiled his happiest smile and said nothing.
Eeyore walked all round Tigger one way, and then turned and walked all round him the other way.
“What did you say it was?”
“Tigger.” ~A.A.Milne
“Those be rubies, fairy favours;
In those freckles live their savours”
The five spots marking each petal of the cowslip, Primula veris, are “fairy rubies”, gifts, or favours, bestowed upon the flowers by the fae. Cowslips were once thought a favourite hiding place of fairy folk.
All the little wood was still,
As if it waited so, until
Some blackbird on an outpost yew,
Watching the slow procession through,
Lifted his yellow beak at last
To whistle that the line had passed...
Then all the wood began to sing
Its morning anthem to the spring. ~A.A.Milne
“If anybody wants to clap,” said Eeyore when he had read POEM, “now is the time to do it.”
They all clapped.
“Thank you,” said Eeyore, “Unexpected and gratifying, if a little lacking in Smack.”
“It’s better than mine,” said Pooh.
“It was meant to be,” said Eeyore. ~A.A.Milne
We curl up and go to sleep... and Pooh, too, closes his eyes and nods his head, and follows us on tiptoe into the Forest. There, we have magic adventures; but when we wake up in the morning, they are gone before we can catch hold of them. ~A.A.Milne #adventures
He took hold of Pooh’s front paws and Rabbit took hold of Christopher Robin, and all Rabbit’s friends-and-relations took hold of Rabbit, and they all pulled together…
And then, all of a sudden, he said “Pop!” just as if a cork were coming out of a bottle.~A.A.Milne #PullTogether
Eight eights are sixty-four,
Multiply by seven.
When it’s done,
Carry one,
And take away eleven.
Nine nines are eighty-one,
Multiply by three.
If it’s more,
Carry four,
And then it’s time for tea.
