Even worse when you hit 30s is the “you got lucky” from the same people who never took a shot

They have to justify their short comings in their 20s since you are doing better than them

Meanwhile every day was ground hog day for them while you were in the trenches grinding

I think one of the most quietly devastating things that can happen to a 30-40 year old high-income high-achiever is the feeling of betrayal they experience when the peers with whom they competed with in their 20s for social/job status and “prestige” start moving the goal posts for what status/happiness actually means and start downshifting to simpler less intense lower paying jobs, start/buy a local business with normal expectations (ie not trying to be a “roll up” multiple arb), spend more time with their kids, travel more, work out all the time or lean into cool hobbies, and are more or less just way more chill and DGAF while they’re still waking up at 5am adding shareholder value or competing for mandates or “being the man.”
