I started a company earlier this year. Not ready yet to say exactly what we're doing, but I want to share some thoughts about why. The first in a series, The Small Internet: https://t.co/FZQVRsKd2c
Everyone is an eng manager now, like it or not. Doing the job the old-fashioned way quickly teaches you that people you can't trust are vampires on your time and attention. It does sometimes feel like I'm running a 10-legged race with a bunch of vampires.
@charliermarsh Feels like we are in an uncanny valley right now: the only structural solution is moving up a level of abstraction, but the agents are not good enough yet to actually allow you to do it, "factory" influencers be damned.

@bcantrill Feels too reductive. As always there is surely some truth to it, but not every company culture was built in a way that does remote work well, and as I'm sure you know, that's an incredibly hard thing to change.
@LudditeDesign@elaifresh Interesting bit of trivia: Reese's peanut butter is slightly rancid and this gives it some of its characteristic taste. They tried "fixing" the problem by adding oxygen-scavenging inserts to the packaging and people hated it!
they got acquired by cursor earlier this year but they’re still raising series B?
that’s like the bacterium that got eaten by another bacterium but didn’t give up and became a chloroplast
The number of people I've seen quoting this post and attributing her opinion to "people in San Francisco" or "tech bros" (lol) couldn't be a more perfect encapsulation of the film's main theme.
Obviously a different scale but when we shipped the first Sidekick in 2002 it had no persistent storage. We had ROM for the OS but all the data was just in RAM and everything was backed up to the cloud (or just “the server” as we called it then). If you drained the battery you had to download all your data again. One nice benefit: you could sign into a new device and it would be indistinguishable from the old one without all the setup you go through when you get a new phone today.
