@DerbysPolice Since covid the amount of high performance cars and motorbikes using Snake Pass has increased a lot. How many people need to lose their lives before average speed cameras are installed?
@ChrisKirk_ASP @H_H_Gray @DerbysPolice they can, but as someone who uses Snake Pass most weekends the law of averages suggests it was an unfortunate combination of speed vs skill.
@WhatTheNell @H_H_Gray @DerbysPolice they don't, but it's a very reasonable guess. Snake Pass has become a de-facto racetrack on any sunny Sunday. 100s of high performance motorbikes and cars, a substantial minority of which are reckless.
@BeefTaquitos@MikeyCycling@bensmith81@theJeremyVine No, I don't always follow the law. I always speed on motorways, I don't always stop for red lights when cycling, I spent longer than an hour outside during lockdowns. But if I'm caught doing that - which I have been - then I accept I knew the law and chose to risk breaking it.
@BeefTaquitos@bensmith81@theJeremyVine@MikeyCycling I respectfully disagree; I think people breaking laws put in place to save lives make things suck. The most likely way any of us will kill another human is whilst driving our cars. Just leave the phone alone, nothing is that important it can't wait.
@BeefTaquitos@bensmith81@theJeremyVine@MikeyCycling It is indeed the law. The clearly little danger, perhaps during the period he's in his phone something changes around him. Perhaps someone starts to cross in front of the car and the guy just sets off when he sees the bus in front move? Best to leave the phone alone really.
@TheZeusGoose @BetBoxing @MikeyCycling@theJeremyVine This driver now has at least six points in his licence. No one needs to have their phone within reach when at the wheel. Either he now changes that behaviour or he’ll be banned soon. Either way we will have one less person driving who lacks basic self control.
@TheZeusGoose @BetBoxing @MikeyCycling@theJeremyVine I don’t use cameras when on my bike. But for those that do, and those who have dashcams - yep, I think they do make a difference. I’m grateful they spend time doing the job the police don’t have the manpower to do.
@Steviebeemcfc@bensmith81@theJeremyVine@MikeyCycling They should both be punished if they broke the law - and part of every submission of video evidence is checking both parties behaviour. But oddly, if the cyclist did break the law, they don’t let the driver off…
