It’s easy to forget Laurence Fishburne was only 14 when he landed Apocalypse Now (1979). He even lied about his age to get the role, making his appearance as Mr. Clean one of the most remarkable early performances by a future Hollywood star.
Kiss from a Rose was written by Seal in 1987, but was only a worldwide hit almost a decade later. Released in 1994 on the album Seal II, the song went almost unnoticed on release.
Everything changed when director Joel Schumacher heard the track and decided to include it in the end credits of Batman Forever (1995). He even tried to use it in a romantic scene between Val Kilmer and Nicole Kidman, but it didn't fit in, yet he insisted on putting it in the film. Brian May wrote “Who Wants to Live Forever” after seeing the scene where Connor MacLeod watches his wife grow old while he remains unchanged in HIGHLANDER (1986). That heartbreak became one of Queen’s greatest songs.

Most movies end when the story is over. THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING (2003) had one final goodbye left. “Into the West” arrives after the journey is done and somehow carries the weight of an entire trilogy. No wonder it won the Oscar.
