@tradasmatic95@TLM_Ryan Holiness is key. However, if you want to attract someone to TLM, you also need to know how to approach that person. Being holy is not an excuse for being socially unadaptable and unapproachable. Actually, that is narcissism.
@tradasmatic95@TLM_Ryan I don't have a reason to "cope". I'm not a groyper and I'm not obsessed with him or with his opinions. However, you don't have to be a dork in order to be a devout Catholic and go to tlm. The message in the video is not a right approach to get someone like him to go to tlm.
@holysmoke I've seen TLM being celebrated in modern churches and it completely transforms them. Ad orientem by itself has, other than theological and symbolic significance, deep sociological connotations. Furthermore, giant crucifix that is usually in celebrant's background suddenly has use
@BirgitteUna@DeannaTheMrs@FrMatthewLC@CatholicPebble Well, we are. Just because some platitudes are mainstream in the Church and are "generally accepted", that does not mean they aren't just that, platitudes.
@BirgitteUna@LadyCsCloset@FrMatthewLC@CatholicPebble Well, it is the new "understanding" of the liturgy that gave us the new Mass that lends itself to poor music. Ratzinger pointed this out in his speech at the Eighth International Church Music Congress. Hymns also depend on local customs. Croatia has a big assortment of hymns
@BirgitteUna@DeannaTheMrs@FrMatthewLC@CatholicPebble I don't have a problem with you critiquing MOTA. However, it's weird to me when you don't recognize distortion and propaganda in the "return to the sources" and "reform of the liturgy was the best thing ever" camp that we've been fed for the last 60 years.
@BirgitteUna@FrMatthewLC@CatholicPebble Even the idea of "returning to the sources" makes no sense. Ratzinger was a big critic of this idea. This is why you rarely see "return to the sources" liturgists ever quote BXVI. They shriek at the idea of even reading Klaus Gamber, Alcuin Reid, and Uwe Michael Lang.
@BirgitteUna@FrMatthewLC@CatholicPebble It seems to me that proponents of the "return to the sources" think we know more about the sources than we actually do. Especially now, when we look back on Nussbaum's idea of ancient altars facing the people, Hippolytus' anaphora...
@kmtran95 We were driving from Croatia for 3 days to Lisbon and 3 days back with 80+ people in the bus hahaha. Driving while wearing jeans was horrible. However, stopping by La Salette in the Alps was a great rest from the heat and all the noise
@kmtran95 When we travelled by bus to Lisbon for WYD and stopped by a church, it was standard practice to change into at least below-knee pants. And we were no "trad uptight suit-wearing" group hahaha
@kmtran95 I think it is a great idea, especially if you know that a significant number of parishioners will run that marathon and probably won't be able to attend other masses. But again, I don't think that putting on a pair of sweatpants over shorts during Mass is that hard...
@kmtran95 The same way you could write a post saying "Chewing bubblegums is not appropriate in a church, especially during Mass." But if you saw someone IRL doing it, you probably wouldn't start attacking them immediately.
@kmtran95 The point is not to finger-wag. The point is that if you are so committed to running marathons and you planned to go to Mass before one on a Sunday, putting on at least a pair of sweatpants over your shorts during Mass shouldn't be that much of an inconvenience.
@SamuelA88570297@exanxc@poperespecter1 If it's so important to you to run that marathon on a Sunday, wearing a pair of sweatpants over your shorts during Mass should be common courtesy, the same way not chewing gum during Mass is.
@SamuelA88570297@exanxc@poperespecter1 And? Sure, we don't know where others are on their journey with Christ. But we can also use reason and determine if someone is being careless and inappropriate, and if something is a bad culture.
@SamuelA88570297@exanxc@poperespecter1 Pls don't flap around with these yee-yee-ass platitudes. Especially if you are not willing to extend charity to people you disagree with, while at the same time scolding them for not having charity.
@SamuelA88570297@exanxc@poperespecter1 Bruh, if you are willing to go through all the physical and psychological preparation to run a marathon and then throw a tantrum when someone asks you to bring a spare pair of jeans/pants/sweatpants/skirt just to wear during Mass, then I don't know what to tell youπ
