i guess what my gripes boil down to is like how do we balance and reconcile video game “realism” and the experiences of real people. how do we balance comfort and storytelling. do we learn something, or does it just cause harm?
@larianstudios and i, as an indigenous person, don't want to have to be taken out of the experience and feel disgusting while playing my fantasy video game. for escapism. because the world is already upsetting enough as it is.
i know that making characters have flaws and sometimes be shitty people in some ways is, technically, good writing. no character is good without flaw. however, the whole interaction between a deep gnome PC and astarion in #BaldursGate3 is so...fucking upsetting as an NDN 🧵
@larianstudios has prided itself in doing better, but i think it still has some ways to go. i want to see this done better. i want to be able to talk to my L/I who i've put 20 hours of effort in gameplay into about the messed up stuff he said straight to my character's face. 🧵
