@MacqFoodnFibre@DavidPocock I’m sorry but that is simply not true. There was a two month long senate inquiry into that legislation2 days public hearings 125 submissions and months of consultation - including multiple visits by Senator Pocock to affected basin communities. https://t.co/KiSfLp63r3.
@unionsaustralia@DavidPocock That’s exactly right Nic. We’ve heard from so many small business people - especially women - who don’t have HR departments like big business and have to take time out from spending with their own families to administer a payment the government already pays direct 40% of the time

“The report found there were no rentals in the country considered affordable for a single person on the government's youth allowance payment, which pays between $332.90 and $720.40 a fortnight in most cases.”

Great to see this spotlight on the housing crisis & powerful analysis “the mounting evidence that one of our most basic needs – shelter – has become a dangerous financial instrument.” @swrighteconomy https://t.co/7bHOM2viKC
In the ACT we are on track to lose more social and affordable homes over the next 3 years with the National Rental Affordability Scheme winding up (2320 affordable rentals) than we will gain under the Housing Australia Future Fund (540 at best) over 5 years.
I know setting up the Housing Australia Future Fund is just a start but we need the government to make a better start than this when we are talking about one of the biggest crisis facing our communities.
I have been asking Housing Minister & Govt not to cut $65 million from frontline homelessness services at a time where we are seeing increasing demand for services and so many people doing it tough in our communities.
That's 650 frontline homelessness service jobs on the line around the country including here in the ACT.
Here's how people working to address homelessness in Canberra will be affected.
The blame for tradies wearing the losses when building companies go bust lies squarely at the feet of politicians. People have been asking for reform for years and we've seen the ACT and federal govt ignore them or roll out platitudes. It's not good enough. Let's fix this now.
