@JohnRNeeleman Hmmm.... I'm away from my book rn, but there's a passage that I read as at least some measure of acknowledgment of his culpability, something about the ways he failed to see Antinous when he was still standing before him? I'll find it later (unless someone gets there first)
Hey, I dove deep into my complicated relationship with Weezer, a foundational band of my youth and a problematic band of my adulthood. Listening to these songs again awakened ancient feelings. Come undone with me! https://t.co/MlvJXYMOBm
Another language question for those with MY's original French: How does she render this sentence (from p. 198) -- "All the metaphors took on meaning: I held that heart in my hands." The alliteration is so delicious in the translation, and I want to compare. #hadriantogether
This is a small matter, but I wonder: how are you pronouncing Antinous? I feel like Antinous and Antinoös have such different pronunciations, and both names apply to Hadrian's young lover, right? #hadriantogether
The Marginalian was born 16 years ago today (under the outgrown name Brain Pickings). Here are 16 things I've learned about life over the years (and the untold origin story) https://t.co/6IIPWOapL9
"show, don't tell" is a thorny piece of advice because telling is often what works. MY gives a great example of how tiny gestures reveal much of a character, like when Hadrian notes, "even my ritual robe was in tone with the evening colors" - beauty matters so #HadrianTogether
@WOLWOL8989 you may, of course, have had similar thoughts and still been mad! :) It just meant something different to me once I sat with it for a moment.
@WOLWOL8989 I almost wanted to be mad at this, and then I thought about the word "venture" -- it could so easily be seen as something positively daring or with the connotation of adventure, but this really just means risk. And that observation is true and beautiful somehow.
