💭 Regarding the Gamrot vs. Quillan matchup. As I think more about it, Gamrot has one path.. he needs to be flawless and at his career best to win this fight against the younger, stronger, hungrier fighter. And what I mean by flawless is, landing the majority of his takedowns, in the best cardio shape of his life, being effective with his striking. He needs to put on a career best performance to win this fight.
Can we seriously be confident that a 35 year old out of his prime Gamrot can put on a career best performance? What makes Gamrot bettors confident that he can do that — because he dominated Klein, dominate Ribovics in recent?
Those two matchups were perfect stylistically for Gamrot - two guys who have poor TDD, especially Ribovics.
The reason why Quillan is the rightful favorite, is because he just needs of be himself to win this fight — everything that he is on paper beats Gamrot. People forget he came into the UFC as a grappler.. yet now everyone thinks he’s a striker causes he’s knocking dudes out.
We’ve got a well rounded Quillan Salkild vs Gamrot who for me is not well-rounded. His striking leaves a lot to be desired — and so does his power.
So if Quillan is not threatened by Gamrot’s power on the feet, he only has one thing to think about, and that’s the TDD’s.
Here’s where Gamrot has struggled - when he faces a superior striker who can keep distance and force Gamrot to take sloppy shots from distance..
Dan Hooker is the perfect example. It’s not like Dan has some incredible TDD, it’s that he’s tall and lanky and dangerous on the feet, and it caused Gamrot to second guess himself and take sloppy desperate shots.
While I believe Gamrot could get his wrestling going early, Salkilld for me, has better grappling than Gamrot’s recent opponents: Hooker, Turner, Ribovics, and Klein.
The path for Gamrot is constant successful takedowns, with the hopes that Quillan tires over 5 rounds. If you’re betting on a 35 year old lightweight to go ahead and make that happen against the younger, stronger, guy with more to prove.. good luck to you.
@BobbyBetsEZ@ChickenKingMMA Yeah people are pretending Quillan has negative grappling 🤣 did Gamrot hold Guram down for 3 rounds? Dariush? Jalin Turner who arguably won the fight (close). No.
🐶 UNDERDOG OF THE WEEK:
Jose Montanha Luiz @+140
You can easily cite his tape and say this guy stinks. And Sutherland is good? No. Sutherland looked good when he was on roids before he got to the UFC.. now’s he’s just an unathletic blob who takes absolute washed Tai Tuivasa to a decision.
I’ll say this about Montanha — if he gets any sort of top control on Sutherland, it’s a wrap.
And on the feet - he keeps distance well, defensively sound, better footwork than Sutherland, likely better cardio.
This line should be flipped. Give me the newcomer who’s living poor in Brazil, recording himself on a 2017 quality iPhone on his Instagram, has kids to feed and has money to make for his family. That’s a different type of hunger and desire..
