Endometriosis affects one in ten people, yet diagnosis is often delayed for many years due to reliance on surgery, limited specialist training and barriers to accessing appropriate care.
A study led by members of the FIGO Committee on Reproductive Medicine, Endocrinology and Infertility (REI), now published in the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics (IJGO), shows a significant global move towards using non-invasive imaging, particularly specialist ultrasound and MRI to diagnose endometriosis.

The FIGO Fertility Passport is a free, downloadable tool designed to improve continuity of fertility care worldwide. Created by the FIGO Committee on Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, it helps prevent repeated, costly investigations and treatment delays when patients move between clinics or healthcare systems.
For patients, it offers a clear, portable record to reduce stress and expenses. For providers, it speeds diagnosis, enhances communication and supports evidence-based decisions. The passport records information for both partners and is especially valuable in low- and middle-income countries where resources are limited.

Hear from Dr Yuda Munyaw in the latest FIGO “Share Your Story” blog, highlighting how FIGO recommendations on assisted vaginal birth are being translated into practice at Haydom Lutheran Hospital in rural Tanzania.
Through structured training, mentorship, teamwork and continuous quality improvement, the team increased safe vacuum-assisted births — helping reduce unnecessary second-stage caesarean sections while maintaining safe maternal and newborn outcomes.
The story also demonstrates the impact of task-sharing, with trained midwives now performing most assisted vaginal births, improving timely access to care in a low-resource rural setting.
A powerful example of evidence-based guidance improving maternal and newborn care in practice. Read the full blog: https://t.co/d2kceacjLd
