Figured 🌱

Figured's farm financial management software is the smarter and easier way to manage farm finances online.

For US crop farmers, QuickBooks Online on its own can tell you what the farm spent, but not how many bushels there are. On its own, it's missing half of every sell decision.

#BeyondtheHarvest has wrapped, and we're back thinking about what we learned.

Our main takeaway: there's a lot of human left in the AI conversation, and those relationships are invaluable in the hard discussions.

What a fantastic event. Big thanks to Adams Brown for hosting.

[Figured 🌱 @figured]

That's it for Day 1 of #BeyondtheHarvest, a day that kept coming back to back to one thing: relationships. As Pinion's Lance Woodbury noted, "Algorithms can answer questions. Only an advisor can earn trust."

Fantastic speakers, and a lot to think about. See everyone tomorrow!

It's nearly time. We're arriving soon in Kansas City, ready for Day 1 of Adams Brown Beyond the Harvest 2026 tomorrow.

If you're attending in person, come and say hello!

"You can be a busy fool in farming. You can do a lot of stuff and not actually make any ground any better than the next person who's doing half as much work."

That's what can happen without visibility, and a clear road map to follow. And it's a problem Southland dairy farmer Tom Severn, alongside his accountant and business adviser, James Harvey (McCulloch & Partners), is trying to solve.

Within 10 years, 50% of New Zealand farm and orchard owners will turn 65. Between them, they hold $150 billion in farming assets.

This represents an enormous generational shift coming to NZ agriculture — and an opportunity for agri-accounting firms looking to expand into those higher-value advisory conversations.

But how do you approach succession, and what tools do you need? Learn more in our latest article, featuring a case study from Diprose Miller, one of the country’s leading firms.

Looking backwards tells you where the farm used to be, but not what’s happening right now.

For Waikato farmer Graeme Shaw, passing down his farm to daughter Marie and son-in-law Sam, that’s not enough. His adviser, Ed Wagstaff from @Diprose Miller, uses Figured to work from today’s numbers, helping the whole team stay on top of what’s impacting the business now — instead of focusing on what went on last year.

That live view is laying down the roadmap for Sam and Marie to move from owning 50% of the business as contract milkers, to taking over the full thing within four to five years.

Killsheet invoice processing just got faster for Figured users in New Zealand.

ANZCO and Alliance now join AFFCO and Silver Fern Farms as supported meat processors, extending Figured's automatic killsheet capture across more of the country's sheep and beef supply chain.

Additionally, you can now upload killsheet invoice PDFs straight from the Livestock Tracker, including several at once, with no email integration or authorisation form needed. Figured reads the invoice with AI and turns it straight into a sales transaction, ready for review.

Out of date numbers create out of date plans.

In the day to day, this can have an unknown impact on a farm's cash position. But in succession planning, it affects the next generation too.

For Ed Wagstaff (Diprose Miller), it’s why he’s been using Figured to support his work with Waikato farmer Graeme Shaw as he passes down his farm to daughter Marie and her husband Sam.

With data that’s on time, today, they can make decisions about the business with all the relevant information in front of them. Both generations work from the same live picture, and Ed can focus more on bringing everyone together to plan ahead and move in the right direction, and less on chasing numbers.

Succession conversations break down when the generations are all working from a different picture.

For Graeme Shaw, passing his Te Awamutu property down to daughter Marie and son-in-law Sam, that shared view comes from conversations steered by adviser Ed Wagstaff (Diprose Miller), supported by real-time numbers in Figured.

With Ed keeping the next generation involved, and Figured offering an accessible view of the farm's live picture, Sam and Marie have taken on 50% of the farm as contract milkers, with plans to take over the rest within four to five years.

It's a plan Graeme thinks is very achievable.

Waikato farmer Graeme Shaw has a target of not owning any farms by the time he’s 70. At 69 now, he says he’s on track.

His daughter Marie and son-in-law Sam are set to take over Graeme’s Te Awamutu property, and already own 50% as contract milkers. But succession planning isn’t easy when most of the numbers live in one person’s head — which is where Figured and adviser Ed Wagstaff from Diprose Miller help get everyone pulling in the same direction.

Their story is a great example of how smart planning, good teamwork, and clear visibility help one generation pass down their legacy to the next.

When a producer calls up looking at a major expansion to their grain handling facilities, how long does it take to get back to them with fresh reports and new scenarios?

For most US ag advisors, it can take a week. For Pinion, they were talking to the client's lender that same day.

Got 5 mins? Here’s the full story → https://t.co/FEkrHeunJU

For most US ag advisory firms, there's a lag in the workflow.

Updating manual processes and trading backups can take a week, if not longer. By then, the opportunity might have closed.

It's a problem Pinion Global's Derrick Deardorff knows well, and one Pinion has solved.
