@Vrom14286662 Can you maybe try and stop hyping everything up? There’s nothing to it but regular maintenance making it easier for us to maintain the testnet - nothing more.
@theissler Not too much to tell but I'll write a new update on Discord tomorrow then I guess :) tl;dr: Currently still preparing for an RC release with pruning, nonce fix, and some other breaking changes included. If our internal tests go well we will announce a new testnet reset date.
@tcampomanes@Vrom14286662 Software maturity comes with usage, and what comes from that is often hard to predict. Overall the testnet has held up quite well and we're confident in it, we just need to ensure that we launch in a sustainable, maintainable way.
@tcampomanes@Vrom14286662 It's a bit of a chicken and egg problem, if we would've built this in silence it would launch with 0 projects on it and 0 learnings from those experiences. We've decided to involve the community and projects early on to be part of this development process. Was it wrong?
@tcampomanes@Vrom14286662 We were hoping to implement pruning after launch, but it turns out we might not be able to catch up if we don't do it right from the launch due to how heavy that process is in combination with the state tries we are using; So we had to move this forward.
@tcampomanes@Vrom14286662 That's okay, it has a long background story. We revisited the storage several times during the project; The initial version was pruned by default for all nodes actually but this was not acceptable for the launching EVM projects and indexers so we added historical support.
@ZurichIota @Vrom14286662 Where do these 3 months come from? As I wrote we've identified during the testing what still needs to be resolved before launch, we fix, test it again, and launch. We want to do this asap but are just not setting a hard date for it.
@JacobNH91 @TheDLTimes @Vrom14286662 It's in everyone's interest to launch ShimmerEVM, and we have the task of delivering the software for that. We've always known we needed this but assumed we could add it later when it becomes a problem. After mass testing, it shows we have to address it now instead.
@Buddh1n1@Vrom14286662 I'm not convinced a whole ecosystem automatically moves to another network as soon as it becomes available and we can not predict this behavior, looking at other networks this sounds unlikely. We have to assume ShimmerEVM will remain used and in use for years to come.
@TheDLTimes @dikko_man I’m happy to address these projects and I think they understand, they know where to find me - I am however done giving you any further attention if you are just being a toxic keyboard warrior trying to trigger or insult me in every response
@TheDLTimes @dikko_man It’s a question of timing, do you need it for the launch, or can you add it later. We assumed the latter but given the testnet results we changed that opinion. Your final statement only tells me you don’t even know what Shimmer and ShimmerEVM actually are 🤷♂️
@TheDLTimes @dikko_man Just calling you out for jumping to conclusions without knowing what you are talking about or asking for more information. It’s always so easy from the sidelines to judge and point fingers, calling others incompetent while adding 0 value yourself.
@TheDLTimes We never communicated a hard release date, it is done when we consider it good enough because we are the ones that will have to fix it if it goes wrong.
@TheDLTimes It’s expectation management, with the team we analysed and concluded based on the campaign results so far that we need this for the launch and we are being open about the what and why. I think it’s pretty naive to assume something works perfectly after the first mass test.
@ZurichIota @Vrom14286662 I don’t see your point, you are able to see and use the testnet. It’s there, it’s working and it’s working well. Do you really think it’s in anyones interest besides some non committed speculators looking for moon to cut some final corners just to launch a little bit faster?
@moo9000@FM0ral3s@aprendizdetod@antonionardella This is obviously a precondition for any of this to work, it's not really within my scope but it has been work in progress for a while now and it's definitely coming, at some point in the future 😅
@moo9000@FM0ral3s@aprendizdetod@antonionardella Also, we don't see DeFi as an end goal perse, but more as a building block towards a bigger ecosystem more approachable to players currently not active in the SC game, allowing permissionless private chains to interact with these public DeFi chains opens up possibilities as well.
@moo9000@FM0ral3s@aprendizdetod@antonionardella That's okay to assume that, time will tell. We have the basic building blocks in place an the testnet is already hosting several well done DEX (https://t.co/AhPfL4DCt5, https://t.co/7LVXZ3uuHG), Lending platforms (for example https://t.co/FPPF807num), Pyth oracles and more.
