I saw a 1,000 year old tree last week, and could not help but thank God for creating this marvelous and resilient world. It would be an act of evangelism to future generations to ensure they encounter ancient trees. Yes, plant churches, but plant some trees too.
My 12 year old son is officially hooked on @davidbazan and Pedro the Lion records. He's learning as many songs as he can on guitar and I couldn't be happier. The next generation is gonna be ok I think.
Today was the first commencement where students that I taught graduated. It was incredibly meaningful to witness, celebrate with them and meet their families.
The resurrection declares that Jesus is victorious not only over death, but over every power that produces it.
Therefore, faithful Christian witness resists the forces of death, living instead in anticipation of the world being made new in Christ.
I found myself telling a friend that despite the turmoil of these times "today was a good day". And it's so very true. We are still allowed to have joy in the midst of it all. Seeing old friends. My daughters bday. Must always hold onto love in the midst of injustice and sorrow.
You have a moral duty & spiritual responsibility to speak out against this growing evil.
For you to stay silent is to be complicit.
Your silence will be a deafening cacophony that echoes throughout history.
The world is watching & listening, especially the younger generation.
Dear Christians & pastors, especially those who've used the sacred name of God (in vain) to support, enable, excuse, & justify the current Administration & it's cruel tactics (looking at you, white evangelicals!):
from "holding their noses" to vote for Trump to boldly/proudly defending state sponsored killings, bald faced racism and violence in a few short years. What a disgusting, fragile and flawed witness these so called Christian leaders have been.
I remember, as a child, being warned about the "slippery slope" of belief and ethics from Christian leaders. "If you believe in evolution you'll be denying the resurrection soon after" etc. I never actually saw that warning play out...until the very same kinds of Christians went
If only we had a book, or even better a collection of books and correspondence telling us how the early Christians navigated living under a hostile imperial power addicted to power, greed and violence.
