This interview is creating discomfort and highlights a legitimate question that is being raised in UN circles about whether it is appropriate for Mr. Grossi to continue doing his job as director general of the IAEA while running for UNSG job. The job, as in this case, gives him a platform to advertise his candidacy and use his job to have an advantage over the other candidates. The Costa Rica candidate, Rebecca Grynspan, head of UNCTAD, another UN high level official, resigned her job to run for UNSG. Diplomats are arguing that all candidates should resign their UN jobs otherwise this gives them undue access, and unfair advantage over other candidates @FareedZakaria . Mr. Crossi should have been asked this question.

The revised list of speakers for #UNGA80 is out — and it confirms what many expected:

#Russia, #China, and #India's leaders do not plan to come, despite an earlier draft that suggested higher-level participation from New Delhi.

As announced earlier this month, # U.S. President #Trump will speak on Tuesday, alongside France's President #Macron.

The UK's prime minister Keir Starmer will speak later in the week. Both #France & the UK have pledged to recognize the State of #Palestine during the event, alongside Canada and Belgium. Somehow, Canada's prime minister is not listed for the high-level debate, but that does not mean he will skip the two-state solution conference.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr #Zelensky is set to address the Assembly on Wednesday morning, and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will take the podium on Friday. Palestine is still listed at the presidential level, even if the Trump administration vowed not to issue visas to the delegation.

The @StateDept just announced it is “denying and revoking visas from members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (#PLO) and the Palestinian Authority (#PA) ahead of the upcoming #UNGA80

The move goes against the UN Headquarters Agreement which says that as host, the U.S. must not impede transit to UNHQ for “representatives of Members” and “other persons invited…on official business,” must apply these rules regardless of bilateral relations, and must grant required visas promptly. Denying entry to UN-accredited delegates cuts against that framework.
